Huh, I thought they were going to open registration to previous goose chasers prior to opening it to the public.

I need to decide what I'm doing. I'm supposed to do a 12 mile run that weekend in preparation for the Marine Corps Marathon two weeks later, so I'm not sure how much of a ride I'd be up for.

Hmmm...but thanks for posting this!

I understand their reason for changing the date of this, but it doesn't work for me in October either. Shame, as I really love the scenery out at Blackwater and doubt that I'll get out there without having something "official" on my calendar. Oh well...

Oh, well... I registered, so someone on here should register to keep me company and go paddling with me. I'll drag a friend with if none of you do.

Diving biker, you could just go out to blackwater & run the route that weekend and watch the bikers.

That's exactly what we've done the past two years and it's been great. If I had enough time, I'd wait to see if I get rich between now and then, but this thing will probably sell out as quickly as it usually does.

Just sign up on their waiting list and see if you get a spot. I was on the wait list last year and got a spot.

I signed up even though it was not financially prudent for me to do so :)

Last year the registration was $35 and they raised $24,500 to donate to Blackwater.

This year the fee is $55, and they "hope to raise $35,000."

Hmm $10,500 divided by $20 is 525.

They tried to cap the ride at 700 riders last year - between the dismal economy and the increased fee maybe they are hoping for 500 riders to raise that extra $10,500.

Will we get a receipt for our taxes?

$55? Really?

I liked last year's ride, but I'm not sure that it would be worth an extra 20 bucks to me. Especially once you factor in the cost of accommodations...

Kalidurga

Exactly. If a hotel room weren't necessary, the $55 on its own would be more of a possibility. As much as I love the idea of supporting Blackwater, my dollars are more likely to go to OneLessCar for the October Tour du Port ride in Baltimore.

$55 is just how much the Illustrator textbook costs.
Priorities.

Hrm. Guess it might not sell out as fast this year!

It's a 2 hour drive from the D.C. area. The route is marked. We can have our own Blackwater ride any time we care to get ourselves over there. I'm sure Friends of Blackwater would gladly take a contribution independent of the Terry ride, if you were to choose to make one.

I thought of that too.

Meh, that's why I never do the civil war century or any of the rest of them. This can be my 1 organized ride a year.

Although, maybe I'll see if Rob wants to do the tour du port with Tam & I again.

You gonna give me a scwhag bag if we do an unsponsored ride over there? I know you've got enough stuff in your basement to put one together ;)

Cat, I'd love to do TdP with you and Rob again, especially since I'll have a little more gearing this year to deal with the wind in Dundalk.

I still have an unused, unopened, still-in-plastic camera bag from last year's schwag bag. It's yours if you want it.

I gave mine away, also unused, unopened, and still in the plastic. No water bottles?

Yep, I re-gifted mine at Christmas.

I use the Podium bottle on my commuter. Sorry. I never use my Iron Girl triathalon water bottle I got in THAT schwag bag...so you can have that one. I think I also have an unused Bike Place bottle somewhere, too.

Intended to re-gift the bag...but forgot. I have a pile of those kind of things (including some wedding gifts!) in the basement.

I registered for the Wild Goose Chase yesterday. My best friend, who hasn't ridden in some years, is also going to do this ride; she's using it as motivation to train. And another friend of ours, a Cycling Goddess, is also coming along. Woo-hoo!! These are the two who drove my car back from Cumberland when I did the C&O last year.

Catriona, I'd be good for a small donation if you do the Catoctin.

This will be my fourth year. It's no Goose Chase, let me tell you. In fact, it's quite the opposite:eek:

Owlice, I haven't registered for the Catoctin challenge. I'm still pondering.

Owlice, I'm not riding.
I'll be busy with the house selling (attempt). I also want to do a solo camping on the C&O.

But thanks, though.

Just signed up & it didn't say anything about a wait list, so it may not have sold out yet.
DB: If you don't want to ride too far, do the short route with me.

Well, I registered but there aren't any rooms at the Holiday Inn Express. Time to find another hotel. Any ideas?

(I'm not doing the marathon after all, so I decided to sign up.)

Glad to hear you've registered, I'll be there, too. It will be my first WGC ride. Suppose I should start thinking about reserving a hotel room.

Who wants to share a room?
Particularly interested in the Comfort Inn, they have a great breakfast

I will sleep on the floor, no problem
