Still no mail delivery.
No mail since Thursday, Feb 4th.
They MAY come today - but usual Saturday delivery is after we leave.
Stupid USPS.
I have seen the mail truck in my hood.
I have to go dig out the mailbox.
Thing is, there are two boxes together, mine and the reverend across the road. If I dig mine out his automatically gets dug out too. I know there are teenagers over there who could do this.
My mailbox has become detached though, and it kind of just sits there.
I'm thinking I might dig enough to get to my mailbox, make a pedestal out of snow and viola!

My mailman has come twice at least, I think - but he comes and gives me junk mail, because I guess they're not sorting mail - so one or two pieces of mail like the coupon packs, but not real mail.
And I don't care enough about junk mail for the effort that it took for the mailman to get out here - he shoulda just stayed home.

I wanna ride my bicycle!!!! Over 4 feet of snow here between the two storms. I've done 20 hours of shoveling since Saturday, but no riding in 8 days. I'm starting to have bicycling dreams! Tomorrow I'm going to order studded tires for my Crosscheck, which will of course assure that there will be no more snow! Pictures from Wednesday afternoon here while it was still snowing. That's four board fence, almost 5 foot high! It's a good thing the snow stopped when it did. My horses would have been very confused when their fence disappeared!

I drove down to NC on Friday to have my race snowed out on Saturday. It melted by afternoon, so I went for a ride, which was nice. Sunday's race ended early with pothole-induced mechanical problems :(. Oh well.

Another band is supposed to come through later tonight, although it's expected to be minor (as in 1").
It looks like we've got at least a week or so of decent weather for melting and cleaning up.

Is your avatar a new photo from your race? I hope your bike is OK.

The new avatar is from a crit late last season.
The bike is ok. The hoods just slid down the bars from the impact, which caused my brakes to close. I wound up yanking them back in place enough that i could get rolling, but they were loose and low from the hit, so I stopped after I finished that lap to grab some tools. I had just put more carbon paste under the hood clamps last week when I changed the bar tape. At least the front wheel is ok and the bars didn't do something funny at the stem clamp. I am also glad the hoods moved and my injured shoulder didn't take the brunt of the impact. Plus, there was a nasty crash on the final lap of the race, so it was a good time to not be in it. Still, I missed out on scoring points for my collegiate team.

We're heading there Thursday!
It's been snowing daily. Not a lot...but enough to make it lovely and the skiing awesome. This morning at Keystone, there were light flurries and it was sunny. The snow in the air and the new snow on the trail were glistening in the sunlight like diamonds. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen here.
(no pix however, cuz it was also danged cold and the mittens stayed on and the camera stayed mostly in my pocket!)

Here's what the W&OD looks like in Vienna:
http://wandodtrailreport.blogspot.com/
From what I've read (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/forum.php) and heard, it seems like it'll be awhile before the DC area MUTs are cleared of the mess.
DH has been running at Haines Point and I might join him on the bike if he heads down there tomorrow am.
The good news is that the piles are receding and the more shaded parts of our roofs are just about clear of snow. I love seeing the streets get wider---by inches---every day we get some melt. The dogs have a snow cave under our azaleas out back (they like going out there and pretending to be wolves!), so there will be three very sad golden retrievers when their fortress disappears! That said, they will have a backyard full of mud to romp in and eat (a delicacy they discovered earlier this winter: cold or frozen mud).
BTW, only three more weeks until DST starts...

Made it outside today! On the roads! Got a bit wet and came home pretty filthy. No shoulders to speak of. Hit a couple mild slush patches. Good times. Drivers (most) seemed to be a bit nicer too. Hard to tell me to get on the path/shoulder/sidewalk when it's still under a ton of snow. A couple people still felt the need to honk, yell, and shake fists. Whatever.

I did the N2 ride today but instead of leaving at the normal 7:30 time, I joined a few of the guys and we did it at 9:30. We had an incident with a driver on River Road. He flew by us beeping his horn and then he cut in front of us and stopped. When we caught up to him, he took off and then stopped again. Then he was weaving back and forth so we couldn't get in front of him. And believe me, I was not about to go anywhere near him. It was ridiculous. One of the guys commented that he's probably been stuck in traffic 3 hours each day this week so he was taking his anger out on us.
It was nice to do a long ride but it is no fun cleaning the bike.
That guy is dangerous and should have been reported.
Didn't you read this thread (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=24749)?

I knew about the California incident and one of the guys said that what the motorist was doing was exactly like that. Only one of our riders got close enough to his vehicle. The rest of us stayed way back and didn't want to mess with the fool (or make it look like we were messing with him). We yelled to our guy to get his license plate but he didn't get it.

I had the opposite experience today. Out on River, a guy was lost or something and after he passed me, he started going really slowly, especially down the hills, but then he'd go for a bit, then slow down again. There was another car following him who put its hazard lights on. I was confused and stayed way back to avoid being sprayed from the wet road. Eventually, they "pulled over" (not really b/c of the snow) and let me pass. The guy in the front car yelled "sorry!" as I went by. Weird, but nice, I guess.

I was soooo hoping to get in a ride today; I haven't ridden since Feb 5, and that was just a few miles. (I'd fallen the weekend before on my snowy driveway, so the ride hurt some, but I was glad I got in a little ride.) I had homework (dang it!) that took MUCH longer than I thought it would; I'd hoped to finish it yesterday.
I might take my bike with me to work tomorrow and try to get in a quick ride before it rains (probably over at Hains Point).

Don't I see X-country ski tracks in the snow? If you can't ride the trail on a bike, do you ski it? :p
I walked down the trail a bit and it looked like it had been skiied and walked. I wish I had thought of it sooner. The trail is only five minutes away but now it's getting up into the 40's.
So I'm still hoping for that one last snow ;)

I just read that they're planning to plow the WOD this week. They said that their policy is to leave the trail unplowed for a while for xcountry skiers, then they plow down to 1 inch and let the rest melt.

It snowed all day yesterday, only had about 4 inches yesterday morning to shovel and then nothing stuck, but it blew snow around and snowed and sleeted and just basically looked yucky all day!
Woke up to about another 4-6 inches this morning and it has been snowing ever since and sticking; so who knows? It is supposed to snow through the evening and then we get a break for perhaps a day and a half!
I'm tired of this already!

That's great news. I thought the snow on the W&OD wouldn't fully melt until April at this rate. There are LOTS of fallen trees on the trail, so that'll be a challenge for the folks doing the plowing.

I noticed today that the W&OD trail has been plowed, just in time for a fresh dusting of snow tomorrow night. Looks like a lot of the fallen trees have been moved as well. Progress is being made ... yes!

Gambrill is lesss than 8 miles from me. Weather there is different.
It doesn't immediately follow that we're 8 miles apart and the weather is the same when there's Catoctin ridge or whatever that is between us and another line of ridges on the other side of you.

For all I know there's a localized low pressure system from the wind pattern between those ridges or one of them causes a rain shadow.

Yes, but it looks like it's going to be well above freezing, so anything that falls likely will melt. That's what I'm hoping, regardless. Actually, I hope that it doesn't develop, takes a track way offshore, etc.
