I think I found the last SportTracks plugin that I needed to ween myself off Garmin Training Center. Therefore, how do I stop GTC from starting when I attach the device? I don't want to uninstall it.
Gracias for the hep.

Are you using the Ant Agent to download the information?
Have you been to the technical support section on the Garmin website? I've found that to be very user friendly and helpful.

It doesn't automatically start for me. Maybe because I usually alternate devices. Try maybe de-selecting your device in the device menu before you close GTC the next time?

It opens no matter which device I attach. I swear I remember a setting to open GTC upon attaching device but durned if I can find one now.
Um, Bike Chick, ANT doesn't require attaching a device. :)
I only have so much space in my pea brain for odds bit of data . . . .

Got an answer through the forum at Garmin Connect.
Gstart is the program which detects the device and opens GTC. It is an icon on the task bar at the bottom of my screen. I right-clicked and turned everything off.

When I plug in the Garmin to my computer, GTC automatically takes up the information...haven't figured out how to NOT get it to do that. Then, I click file, export and you have to tell them which date activity to export.
A box will open to save this file, with the file already saved in the "file name" box. Click on the right where it says "save".
Open SportTracks and on your activity page, on the bottom left, select Import. A box will open and you need to click on the file icon and browse to the location of the exported (from GTC) file. Mine came right up! Click on the date of the activity and click "next" at the bottom. THen click on the date of the activity you have exported and click on Finish at the bottom. It then imports the activity to SportTracks.
I know that you wanted to know how to bypass the Garmin, but I am not sure if short of deleting the GTC that you can go straight to ST. I keep GTC because that is where I can update the firmware on the Garmin Edge, and where I can update the GTC software itself. I really don't think there is a way around this issue.
I actually use Cyclistats for my stats and like it. I paid for it but have used it (as has my husband) for the last four years. Pretty cheap for keeping the stats that I want...just the basics..mileage, speed, HR (if I wear the monitor), calories and climbing, etc.
Anyone else?

When I plug in the Garmin to my computer, GTC automatically takes up the information...haven't figured out how to NOT get it to do that. That's the purpose of stopping GStart. Read my notes about GStart above. Look for the little blue "g" icon.

In ST, you can import directly from the device. Keep your Garmin connected via USB, click import and then click on the icon that matches your device.
If I had to export a file and then import it, it wouldn't happen.

Stopping Gstart does not stop me from using GTC nor does it uninstall GTC; it just stops GTC from opening automatically when I attach a device. If I want to run GTC, I just manually open it like any other program.

I know! :)
Interestingly, once I knew to search for info about Gstart the "Search Support" option at Garmin still didn't produce any results.
