Trek 970, c.1995 Frameset 19.5”

This frame is probably from 1995 or 1996. This was one of the last high quality steel frames Trek ever made (bummer) and was probably the best steel mountain bike frame that Trek ever produced. I used this as a commuter and towner for a few years, and I’ve always been impressed with the outstanding ride (most likely due to the triple butted tubing). They don’t make frames like this anymore, unfortunately. There are no dents or rust but it does have some scratches, so with a fresh paint job or powder coat this frame could last a couple more decades. This is a frameset only, no fork. Seat collar included. Red-Bronze in color.

The details:
True Temper OX Comp III triple butted tubing (Wow! Try finding a triple butted frame these days!). 19.5” c to t; 57.5cm actual top tube, ~60cm effective top tube. It takes an 1 ¼ clamp front derailleur, top pull; 27.2 seat post; 73mm bottom bracket shell; takes an 1 1/8 steer tube. 135mm rear spacing. Not disc brake compatible. It does have rear drop out braze-ons (rack, fender or both); it does not have seat stay rack braze-ons, but I had rear rack braced to the threaded seat stay cross member that worked out great.

$150 plus shipping cost (varies by location). I take paypal.
