I adore the Brooks on my Kona commuter. I have to use the MTB as a snow bike some days. It has a Specialized women's MTB saddle on it. Not too bad when we're trail riding, since I don't spend as much time in the saddle. Killer for riding to work. Are there any MTB saddles that are somewhat t-shaped, narrow-nosed and not terribly padded? HELP!

I'm curious as to why you aren't riding with the Brooks on your MTB.

Could you mount a rear fender on the MTB to protect your Brooks from the snow and slush?

I have Brooks saddles on all my bikes.

I'm confused, can you tell us more about why you can't put one on your MTB?

My biking buddy and I are going to try some more extreme trail riding than I am used to. I'm told I need to be able to get behind the saddle for descents. I'm afraid that my B-67 is too wide for that sort of thing. I don't want to injure myself (other than on trees, rocks and assorted other obstacles). I thought I'd leave the Specialized saddle on Abbie for mountain biking but I really don't like the width of the nose. It's uncomfortable for all but the shortest rides.

Ah! No, B67 would be like birthing a baby every time! Eeek! I think Kitsune06 used a B17 for that... but beyond that I'm no help.

It can be done but know that your thighs will wail a good one and your butt will get dinged by the hard nose of a Brooks. I've tried it with my Brooks Team Pro S. :o

Have you tried a WTB saddle? The nose points down on some of their models and WTB's get pretty good reviews overall. Take a looksie at Pure V (http://www.wtb.com/products/saddles/performance/) andDeva (http://www.wtb.com/products/saddles/racing/).

Also, check into a racing type saddle.

I'm currently using a men's Specialized MTB saddle on my road bike. It's the Phenom (143mm) and it is t-shaped, with very minimal padding. So that might be an option for you to look into.

I have a Devo test saddle from the LBS. I'm hoping to get in a ride tomorrow. It is a minimalist saddle. I'm not worried about it being too hard. My sit bones are toughened up from hundreds of miles on my Brooks. I just hope the nose is narrow enough.

I tried the Devo, then the Deva. I think the Deva's a keeper. Now I have a dilemma. I can buy the test saddle for $50, order a new one for $90, or get a new one on the net for $47 (including shipping). But I'd feel rotten not getting it from the LBS. But I would like to have one that doesn't say "test saddle." $40 dollars is a lot for vanity... Sigh.

Can you cover the "test saddle" with something cool?

After reading Running Mommy's post about the possible closure of her LBS, I realize what my heart knew all along. I can't justify the price of a brand new saddle right now, but I can justify the price of the "test saddle." DH suggested we paint "No Longer A" above "Test Saddle." I need my LBS to stay here and I need to support the local businesses. After all, I also work for a small, family-owned company.

Deb :D

Besides, if someone can read my saddle, they're MUCH too close!

Blackhills, I'm sure your LBS will appreciate your business during these hard economic times. Thank you for being open to doing so and let us know what you put on your saddle. As for getting too close to your saddle--:D :D
