Hi :-)

I'm training for a 10km run as the run leg for a team triathlon race.

I'm a cyclist and used to be a runner so am already quite fit although I have not yet run the full 10km yet.

I set out for a 40min run on sunday and only got about 1 km down the road and got the most incredible stitch all of a sudden. It stopped me in my tracks, i couldn't move, it hurt to breath. I tried walking it off and SLOW jogging again but could only manage about 5 steps until i got it again. I could actually feel it with my hand. It was under my right rib cage.

Any ideas as to why I may have got this?

I was breathing controlled and not running any faster then normal either.

Thanks,
:)

Are you sure it's a stitch? Where exactly is it located?

Years ago I had a really sudden abdominal pain that happened when I was doing high-impact aerobics or running or walking fast with high heels. I had to sit down because the pain was so sudden and intense. Turns out I had ovarian cysts. It took me months to figure it out, because I thought it was something to do with breathing or the intensity of the exercise. It's not necessarily a big problem, but if the pain is not that of a typical stitch, and located a bit lower, you might want to investigate further....

Hi Grog,

The stitch is located on my right side and starts about 2.5inches down from the bottom of my ribs and is sort of diagonal.. I can still feel the lump or what ever it is now when i feel it with my hands..

That's weird and you know what everyone is going to tell you.

Go.

Yep, definitely NOT normal! Please go get checked out... it's worth feeling like it was silly to go in if it's nothing, but if not, you probably don't want to wait.
