I purchased an iPod Nano this evening for which the headphone doesn't seem to work. Aaarg...and I will need to mail it off to get a replacement or return. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it? I can't find anything on the internet about it, so am assuming that I just got a bad one - but you never know. I got it so I don't have to use my rather more expensive phone at the gym to listen to music....

Is it new or refurb? I have had more trouble with the Apple earphones than any other product. I would consider an aftermarket set of earphones, in case that is the problem, since you might end of heading that way in the end.

If it's the earphones, I'd toss them and buy a decent pair - or pm me and I can probably find several stuffed in a drawer I could send you. But, they aren't worth the cost of shipping. Get a better fitting and sounding pair.
If it's the jack - then good luck to you, I've had to deal with Apple about my iPhone and they are almost as bad as Adobe.

If there's an Apple store around you, you shouldn't have to mail them off.
In either case I agree with Chicken; the factory supplied headphones stink anyway. Sound quality is only so-so; you can forget about getting them to stay in your ears, and if you get past getting them to stay in they hurt in short order since there is no padding. Headphones with a much better design can be had for $15-25 easily; you'll spend a decent chunk of that if you do indeed have to mail Apple's headphones back to them.

Make sure the headphones are plugged in completly. I think there's an extra 'click' with the new nano.

I didn't even think about there being a local store, and thankfully the only Apple store in Indiana is about 15 miles from my apartment :D I have an appointment this morning.
I have an iPhone and certainly had no problem with warranty service from the local store - guess I was just too tired last night to think about this. I purchased it from a third-party distributor, but of course the warranty still applies.

Yup, I felt really silly when I got mine. I couldn't make it sound "stereo" and I finally figured out that you have to really push the plug all the way in. It seemed really hard to go in, like it would get damaged doing that. But that's just how it is. I purchased mine for myself when I reached a weight loss goal. My next goal is 5 pounds away, for a GPS!
