I know that I'm not alone and that many of us name our bikes. I have a road bike named Fiona, my mountain bike is Moonbeam and my commuter is Sally. But beware, this act of bike naming can have consequences.

I haven't been able to ride my mountain bike much in the last few months when I've been putting the finishing touches on my Ironman training. But Ironman is over and on the way back to The Gorge from AZ my boyfriend and I stopped for a day of riding in Moab. Moonbeam was finally going to have her chance to shine.

We were having a great ride and I chatted excitedly with Moonbeam the whole time. Then... I accidentally called her Fiona. While I was riding her.

She flatted out immediately. I could just imagine her scolding me, "I'll teach you for calling me by that skinny tired b!tches name!"

I apologized and fixed the tire. She seems to have forgiven me. We had a great ride together on Saturday.

Maybe my Ex was right... it's always best to call the [bike] something generic like baby or sweetheart. That keeps you out of trouble.;)

LOL, leave it to guy to think of that. My daughter was just asking me what other people name their bikes, so I was just coming on here to see if I could find any names. Low and behold here was your post with the name of all of your bikes. That was handy.

Funny story!

Haha. Great story! I love it!

I too have gotten into the habbit of naming my bikes. I call my road bike "The Brat", my mountain bike is Sam and my commuter is Gramps (cuz he's old and gray!)

i have found the use of color and a thesaurus as an amazing way to find bike names. Lutesca, -from lutescant- for my slate grey vintage cannondale that I put all yellow components on (it makes me think of sunshine on a cloudy day, cheesy, i know) and Macabre for my all black motobecane :D

My road bike is Hot Donna (after that 70"s show) she's a Bianchi Eros Donna.

My Surly (that I sold) was Bluedini (after a great koolaid flavor)

My current commuter is Tapioca. The color is called Pudding, and that made me think of Tapioca.

My best friend has a super cute horse named Fiona - Fi for short :D

I think your story is great!

Oh dear. I'm glad she forgave you.

I think my bikes know I'm well on my way to becoming a complete dottering old fool, and I may call them any name of anyone I've ever known at any time.

As a kid, I always thought it was cool when my grandad called me by my mom's name, and I felt positively triumphant when he called my by his kid-sister's name! Helen...I liked her too!

Now THAT is a funny story!:D
Don't cross your bikes (especially your cross bikes) or bad things will happen. Lesson learned. ;)
