Well, not really. I didn't have the diamond earrings, I was just saving up for them. I decided that a new bike would look better on me than diamond earrings.
So, here it is, a new 2010 Trek 7.3 FX. :) I rode it home from the store and it was awesome. It felt great! I can't wait to ride more. I also bought a wireless odometer, bottle holder (w/free bottle), and gloves.

Thank you to all who offered input and suggestions to my questions.

A far healthier and more fun route than diamond earrings. :D

I agree- the bike compliments your features more than the diamond earrings. Congrats on the new ride. It's SOOOO pretty!!!! :D:D

Congrats! You'll have plenty of great miles with her.
I'm on the flip side - I had to sell a bike to pay for a new dental appliance the other day. My fault - left it in the dogs reach.
Okay, so it was my hardtail that I never ride and it went to a girl one of my teammates is dating that just got into mtbing but still..... Now I have an excuse to buy a new hardtail for xc races so I can leave my fs 29er at home.

I'd go for a new bike over diamonds any day. Glad you straightened out your priorities & made the right choice. Congrats on the lovely bike!

I love that you rode it home from the store. :) Like being a kid and wearing your new sneakers home from the shoe store.
And I think that bike looks lovely on you! (that's the color of my Trek too!)

I laughed at Trek420's comment about diamond frames!
I agree with all the others; good choice!
Happy riding to the two of you!

Definitely the better choice. Not only does it compliment your features, the more you ride the more it will compliment your figure.
Last year, my boyfriend bought me a present that came in something like a jewelery box. They were earrings for my bike. Well sort of, it was a super light, elegant single piece clamping system that worked for both my brakes and shifters together. I loved it.

Yes, a shiny new blue diamond bike. I like that. I know there is a blue topaz, but blue diamond, I am not so sure of. I'm glad I straightened out my priorities too. I rode it today 4.8 miles. I could go more, but I also walk my dog in the mornings and it was a busy day. I'm going to work my way up, but I think I need to get bike shorts sooner than later.

Bike shorts are even less than diamonds ;)
Definitely a better investment at many levels :)

Ahh, I already have a helmet. I got it about 5 years ago when I was riding with the kids to their school. I figured if they had to wear a helmet than so should I.

Congratulations on the new bike! To tie this to another thread, are you going to name her? I think the bike will be more fun than the diamonds :)

Yes, there are blue diamonds, the most famous being perhaps the Hope diamond: http://www.si.edu/Encyclopedia_Si/nmnh/hope.htm
Bee-YOO-ti-ful bike!!!!!
And you've given me an idea as to what to do with the diamond wedding band I no longer need; congratulations on your new bike, and thank you! :D

Maybe I shall name her "Hope" after the famous Hope Diamond. :D

LOL - I just told my husband that I named my bike Hope and he laughed and said "is that because you hope it will help you lose weight." Isn't he funny?

You might want to rethink that name. The Hope Diamond is supposedly cursed.

Yikes, I should have read the story first. Okay, I will rethink the name. LOL. It is not set in stone yet.

Congratulations on your new bike! Enjoy!
When DD was born, DH asked if we should exchange gifts (those "push presents" some people do; gross words, I know) and I said I'd rather have a deposit in my bike fund. :)

The "Hope Diamond Curse" was mostly a marketing tool, the rest an urban legend, though the last private owner did have some bad things happen in her (long) life. (Then again, don't we all?)
mhami, I'm so glad you posted this thread!! I really have been wondering what to do with that piece of jewelry I will never wear again, and my heart is lighter now, knowing that I can get at least something I value out of it!!

What are you going to do with your diamond wedding band? Make earrings out of it?

No, no! I'm going to sell it and buy a new bike, just like you did!!!! Thank you for the inspiration!!!
Well, this thread has taken a turn, hasn't it? Though that's seems to be the norm.
That is a fantastic idea, Owlice! And that bike's name will be Phoenix :)

If you ride when it's cold and sunny, you'll have diamonds coming out your nose! ;)

Well, personally, I wouldn't turn down the bike *or* diamonds. I don't go around dripping in jewels, but I lost my engagement ring years ago, and I would like to get a new diamond. Someday... I guess I've bought too many bikes to be able to afford it!

malkin, you should have posted a warning with that post; I almost shot something out of my nose, and it wasn't diamonds!!!! Oh, so funny!!!
Zen, thank you. That is a fabulous and wonderful suggestion, and I will, indeed, name the new bike Phoenix. Geez, that almost made me cry, honestly. Thank you.
Crankin, I like diamonds, too, and still have the ones my first husband, who I think highly of, gave me. (Engagement ring and earrings; we're not talking diamond ropes. Darn it! :D ) I'm keeping those!
I hope you get to replace your engagement ring!
