any suggestions? my thighs have gotten so big that they are pulling my pants down. i'm walking around hauling them up, continuously.

i admit to being a sucky shopper, but so far i can't find a particular style or brand that works. i work at a job that really precludes dresses.

I pretty much only wear jeans. Eddie Bauer makes some nice curvy pants, though.

Costco "Kirkland" brand men's jeans ($13) fit curvy chickies quite well, odd as it may seem. I'm a 16-18 right now, and men's 36-38 waist fit nicely. The thighs are plenty roomy, as is the butt. I need a belt, however.

Plus, with men's sizes you can choose your inseam length. Very good!

(They are so cheap that I don't feel at all bad about buying a pair for my "fat pants" and then giving them to Goodwill after I get back to my normal weight.)

I've also had very good luck with Levis 560 men's jeans. Tighter waist than the Costco jeans (which fits better when I'm not so damm fat). Roomy butt and thighs. They run larger than Costco, so while I'm wearing 38 in Costco I can wear 34-36 in Levis 560.

When I'm in good shape (big thighs, high round butt, tiny waist) Levis 560 and Levis 501 fit very well, as do Diamond Gusset button fly men's and the women's regular fit.

For regular khaki-type pants I like the fit of men's Columbia ROC pants. (the women's have NO room for thigh muscles) REI "Slickrock" pants fit surprisingly well, though it can be very hard to find the 34 inch inseam at the stores. http://www.rei.com/product/746917 It seems like men's relaxed fit keep the nice snug waist, which is impossible to find in women's these days, and they give the room for the thigh and butt muscles. Be warned, the REI Slickrock pants SHRINK IN LENGTH REALLY REALLY BADLY. Buy a good 2 inches longer than your usual inseam!

I noticed that Athleta recently started making "skinny jean" style cords with athletic fit thighs. I laughed because I bought a pair of "modern fit" cords at the Loft in my regular size. I didn't realize they were the same cut as the "skinny jeans" I had bought there, but in one size up. I can barely pull the cords over my thighs.
I might have to check out the Athleta pants, because I feel like I am being strangled.

I LOVE Levi's "Curvy" 529 midrise, bootcut jeans. The junior's version (somewhat lower rise) is the 528. They are great for those of us with bubble butts, big thighs, and smallish waists.

Lucky jeans fit me the best, without the gap at the back waist. I have to find them at the consignment/2nd hand stores. Fortunately, they aren't too hard to come by here. Silver jeans fit pretty well, too. I have muscular thighs and a small waist.

Based on this post, I bought a pair of Levi 529 today. Excellent! I was a bit frightened by the skin-tight thighs, but the spandex keeps everything comfy. I think I like them better than my Costco jeans. They are certainly more flattering! (and I don't need a belt to control the waist, there really is NO gapping! Yay!)

Yeah, I think this is my first ever pair of jeans with 0 gap. Some jeans have enough room that I could stick an entire litter of 6 week old kittens back there. :p

I'm going to have to look for those. The more hills I climb, the more my thighs outgrow my 515's.

Tiny waist doesn't describe me, but if they're mid-rise that doesn't matter...

Wouldn't you know it....

Levi's is no longer making 529s.

Soon as you find something ya like, they go and STOP MAKING IT! So, all you folks who love the 529 jeans, better go buy 'em while you can; cuz according to the Levis website "oops, we're sorry" they are no longer available. Even searching the 9 digit code on the care label on my pair came up empty.

Boogers.

Levi 550 never fit me as well as the 560 (which they don't make anymore, either), but I think I'll give them a second try next time I need new jeans. Unless they stop making THOSE as well! http://us.levi.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3607962&page=1&kwCatId=&kw=550&origkw=550&sr=1

I kinda wondered if that were the case. Dang. I wonder if they have a new style # that is cut similarly. I know we are not a rare shape.

Naw, but thanks. I'll probably get a pair of women's 550 or men's shrink-to-fit 501 again. (shrink-to-fit 501 always fit, and though I am grumpy that they aren't made in the USA anymore I'll probably buy more. Can't argue with a classic, and the waist shrinks down nicely after a couple months. Diamond Gusset doesn't make their button fly shrink-to-fit anymore.... of course....)

They still have full size runs at Amazon and they are on sale for $29.99 for most colors.

I actually ordered a pair and they fit WONDERFULLY! And I love the price, too. They are just too long - as in...too long to even wear with heels, damn it. I'm going to try shrinking them, so we'll see. Maybe it's better if I don't fall in love since they are going away anyway, huh?

I have a pair of women's 515's that have spandex but look like regular jeans. They are a little form fitting but have great range of movement for cycling. I wear them as much as possible for riding. I also got mine at Kohl's. I wear long-johns under mine in the winter and it's worked out for me.

Yeah, I was looking at the 529s, but if they ever came in short, they're not available now. 515s are a little tight on my thighs, but they do come in short. Of my three pairs, none of them fit exactly the same, but they'll do.

They did...but they were a little too short after washing a few times. I have a 29-30" inseam, IIRC.

I find that the regulars are a little long, but not bad. Maybe an inch long, at most.

I was looking for my saddlebags/abs pic from 3 years ago, cuz I was wearing "big thigh pants" in that pic.

Photobucket ate it, it's gone. But if anyone remembers that picture, those were a pair of men's 32w 32L Levi 560.

Levi still makes them.

Score! I just found a pair of 529s at Kohl's...in my size, clearanced, buried in with the regular priced ones. Clearance tag was $13.99, but with an additional 50% off, so I walked out with a pair for under $7. Heck, yeah! :D:cool:

I had to give up on my 529s. They made my head explode.

well... sort of. They shrank. Then they developed this interesting habit of sitting very very very low. Obscenely low. It was like having a piece of popcorn kernel stuck between your teeth: not life-threatening, but definitely annoying, and something you can't help but pick at.

So I threw caution to the wind and bought another pair of beloved shrink-to-fit Levi 501s. In honor of the fact that I've gained 40 lbs since the last time I bought a pair, I grudgingly went up 2 inches on the waist size.

Magic Levis 501 Shrink-to-Fit Formula for Chickies

Measure your waist where you want the jeans to sit. (fat Knot waist = 37 inches)
Measure your hips at their widest, just for fun. (fat Knot hips = 48 inches)
Measure the inseam on your current favorite jeans, or measure your unfavorite and add or subtract length as you wish. (Knot legs = 33 inches)

Add 1 inch to your waist measurement. (or add 2 inches if you have concerns that your hips need the extra room given by the next size up. I add 2 or 3 inches when I'm not fat, cuz my waist is little then but my hips always stay lush.)

Add 3 inches to your inseam.

These are your measurements for the raw denim shrink-to-fit jeans. My fat Knot jeans are W38 x L36

Buy your jeans. ($30-ish in the men's department. Smile sweetly at the folks trying to puzzle out what size they need. You already know!)

DO NOT TRY THEM ON! Take off the tags and toss them in the washer on cold. Give 'em a little detergent and maybe another pair of jeans or two to keep them company.

Tumble dry them until damp. Put them on. They will feel like evil cardboard. They will be cold and clammy. Suck it up. We're doing magic here, remember? Pull the jeans up so the waist lands where you want it. Make a cup of tea. Pull them up again, and sit down. They may feel horribly tight in the butt. Fear not! Shrink-to-fit also stretch-to-fit! (do some squats, sit on your heels, get back in the chair) Readjust as needed. Drink your tea, cruise the internet, and sit until the jeans are dry.

Take them off, wash again in cold, dry again until damp. Put them on, make tea, adjust, sit until dry.

Wear them for a week.

For the next couple months, wash in cold and hang to dry. Only put them through the dryer when they are too stretched out or if the waist isn't shrinking fast enough for you.

After a couple months they should be pretty well "custom fit" and safe to dry in the dryer at will. If the hips ever get too tight, repeat the damp-jeans-tea-sit-until-dry routine.

I have a small waist and larger hips. The only jeans that fit me like a glove with NO gapping at the back of the waist, and just hug me all around the waist perfectly are the 'Jones (of) New York Signature jeans'. I don't know who's the designer that designed those jeans, but he or she is someone who really really really really has figured out a women't butt! LOL The waist is perfect, the legs are perfect (not too tight, not baggy), and there is just enough strechy fibers in there to give, yet, they have the look and feel of just regular jeans jeans, like good old Levis, Lee, Lois, etc. The color is right too. Some of those 'stretchy' jeans are the wrong color/texture. If I had to have just one pair of jeans, that would be the one. I love ridding with them when I commute because they are not rough on the knees. I find them at La Baie (in Canada). I don't know who would carry them in the US. Maybe the Jones of New York website would have that information.

Has anyone tried the "Bold Curve" jeans by Levi's? Appears that they might have replaced their "Curvy" line. They have 3 new cuts...the Bold Curve ones are for small waists with bigger butt and thighs. I want to try these.

I finally found "skinny" jeans that fit me. Well, they are not labeled as such, they are actually leggings that are jeans, made by the Loft. And, they come in petites. It seems as if having the lycra allows me to get them up over my cycling calves and thighs. I did go one size up from my usual, but they fit perfectly. I wore them last night with heels and DH told me I "looked like one of those girls from the city." Well, not exactly, but they felt good.

I bought two pair of North Face Shorts at Bass Pro Outlet. They are made of a stretchy material so when you put them on they "fit" and then they loosen up considerably. They have a draw string which I end up using because they loosen up. I know you are looking for pants but maybe North face makes pants out of the same material. Also, I bought some jeans at Coldwater Creek that were kind of stretchy but don't look like leggings, they loosen up too. Coldwater makes a few different cuts but the ones I got are no longer made. My point is, Try these new fabrics, I was a hard core cotton jeans wearin' gal until I tried these. You may have to go up a size or two but so what. I think Coldwater is accomodating us full figured yet athletic types. I guess i am trying to say that i had to go out of my comfort zone to find pants and jeans that work. Check out websites for deals and sales. I will try some of the pants mentioned on this post... you never know. Oh! When I wanted slacks for work I also went to JCPenney, they have lots of styles and colors, most in stock. :)

Muirenn, I like slacks/dress pants from the limited. I don't have hips but I do have a bubble butt. The pants are stretchy but comfortable. They have a couple fits, I think mine is the drew. They also come in short sizes for my stubby legs! And affordable! The only problem I've found is that the buttons fall off a lot and then hem sometimes comes undone. All easy fixes though.

I found some awesome jeans (http://www.fortwestern.com/store/product.php?productid=418332) for my athletic thighs!

They're not a brand that I was familiar with, but the "Relaxed Fit" fit nicely through the butt and thighs without looking baggy or sloppy. Winner!

Tractor Supply Company has a few brands of jeans mean for athletic women. Cruel Girl jeans are also really good. But I just picked up two pairs at tsc for under $25 each. They do have a normal (not low cut) waist line which I need because in my work there is a lot of bending and actual labor.
