A woman in my agency came to my office this afternoon to do some computer training for my entire office - my boss, me and my 4 co-workers. I have spoken to this woman a few times on the phone but the only time she's seen me is when I am leaving in the evening with my bike wearing cycling gear. When I walked in my boss' office, she looked at me and said, "I almost didn't recognize you, Patty! This is the first time that I've seen you dressed!" :eek: Well, we all lost it. Everyone burst out laughing. She laughed and said, "I saw Patty last week in the hallway and didn't recognize her because she was dressed." She could have added "in work clothes/professional clothes" but noooo. Again, my co-workers were cracking up and then one of them said, "This is the first time I've seen Patty dressed, too!" My boss' face turned extremely red. He quickly changed the subject.

Unfortunately...I believe we are a lost cause and no amount of training will help. :D

I've had similar experiences... usually in a store and once in synagogue :eek:. Usually, one of my clients from the gym where I taught aerobics would come up to me in the mall or grocery store and say loudly, "Oh, I didn't recognize you in clothes."
The time at the synagogue involved a man who regularly came to my 6 AM class. This was about 15 years ago. He came up to me in the lobby and said, "What are you doing here? It looks funny to see you with clothes on!"
His wife was not amused. It turned out that they are friends with some of my good friends and over the years we have ended up doing holidays with this couple. We always laugh about that encounter.

Ha!
Yeah, it's a favorite, for some reason....:rolleyes::D
The mayor of the town I used to live in up in Massachusetts was quite a muscle head, and I'd see him every morning at they gym, lifting weights. One evening, I attended a hearing to speak out against a proposed closure of a trail to mountainbiking. I saw the Mayor there. He came up to me and said "Hey, I didn't recognize you with clothes on!" :eek:

Yep, that ambiguity!

We have a friend who is a reproductive endocronologist (in vitro). Once at a ball game, a woman three rows down saw him and then stood up to yell "look darling, that's the man who got me pregnant!"
