Yes... and no. Sorry, not there now.
I was born in Redlands and lived there until college, and a few long term visits. My first cycling experiences are all from the area during my high school years (long, long ago!). I used to ride up by Crafton Hills College and also in San Timoteo Canyon.
Good luck finding someone local- I live in Tucson now

Thats a bummer. It seems impossible to find any women out here that ride. I ride a mountain bike and road bike.. I ride crafton hills often, its a great ride no matter if your on the road or going thru the hills.
Is Tucson in Arizona? How is the riding there?

I'm in Palm Springs. Not too far. I'm not at all familiar with Yucaipa, only that there are great hills there.

After a long hiatus from cycling (during high school was 1970's) I've rediscovered it. Tucson is very bicycle friendly - just hot here in the summer so you have to get out really early in the morning.
Do you ever ride out in Live Oak or San Timoteo Canyons? They were pretty rural when I lived there. I used to ride past the Redlands cemetery, into San Timoteo Canyon and over a hill that took me to roads between Hemet/San Jacinto and Moreno Valley, then back via Riverside. But Moreno Valley was a sleepy little town then... and I know it's a city now. I used to ride up Mill Creek Canyon occasionally, and once to Oak Glen.
Is there a bike shop in Redlands or Yucaipa where you could ask about other riders? Good luck. Let me know how it goes- I have lots of good memories of riding there that have been bubbling up to the surface as I'm riding again.
(post here or PM me).

I used to ride Crafton Hills all the time! The most fun is when I had a hard tail mtn bike, I used to go up in the hills and then back around the orange groves. I lived in Lake Arrowhead (Twin Peaks, actually) but worked down the hill and used to do most of my riding down there.
I'm sorry I can't help you. I'm in Seattle now. I go down to visit my parents in Upland fairly frequently but don't have a bike down there. I really miss SoCal riding, I just don't enjoy riding up here in the rain.
Good luck! Have you tried any of the cycling groups? Or finding someone at an organized event? Redlands and the surrounding areas used to have a few metrics and centuries.
Hrrrmmm....Redlands Bicycle Classic is next spring. I miss that too.

I live in Orange County (Huntington Beach) but I should start trekking out to your area soon to get ready for Breathless Agony. I'll start pre-riding the course or variations of parts of it, so Oak Glen, Highway 38 to Onyx Summit. Fun stuff. :p If you ever want to hook up for a climbing ride, let me know. It would likely be a Saturday. :)

Hey Brandy,
Wow! I saw your blog.. you would blow me away if we road together. :o
I am pretty much a beginner. I road up to oak glen a while back, but I havent road up to big bear yet. I have been doing a lot more mountain biking lately so my poor road bike has been neglected. I really need to get back on it.
I go out to Huntington Beach during the summer and ride the river trail. Are there any good mtb trails out there?

I'm out of shape and VERY slow right now! :P Besides, climbing rides are great for riders of varying abilities. The faster climber can summit and turn around and descend for the slower rider. :)
There is some good mountain biking out here. Closest to my house is El Moro and Laguna Coast. Then there's Aliso and Woods Canyon, Whiting Ranch, all of the trails in the Santa Ana Mountains, etc. Today we did San Clemente Single Track (aka "The Weedpatch") and there was some stuff that was way beyond my beginning mtb skills!

Have you taken your mtb on the Santa Ana River Trail out here by Angeles Oaks? I havent been yet, but Im supposed to be going with my husband and his group. He has a Christian mountain biking group called Yucaipa B.O.M.B that is part of an international biking club. Next time your out this way you should go on a ride with us.

Usually Wednesdays and Saturdays, but really anytime I can get a babysitter :) My husband is kinda of mtb addict so the second I have free time he has me out there.

Morning, afternoon or night. I work nights so could ride almost any mid morning/early afternoon(need to be home by 3 for after school pick-up). I am very slow going up hill and my technical skills need much practice but if you're game I'm game.
