I haven't had any time for checking out the forum with all the training, work and life demands so it's been hard to get psyched. I'm finally starting to get excited.
So... is anyone else racing on November 22nd?
:D:D:D:D:D:D

I don't have my bib number yet. I tried to find it on line but no success. I should go back and try again.
I am excited but I also feel very under trained. It's been a tough year. However, the day will bring what it will and I'm sure it will be a good experience. Thanks to all of you for your support.:D:D:D

Hey Honey!!
I got your email, just have had a cluster of a week!
I will be out there watching the race, so it's nice to know that you are racing.
Will email you for sure!!
And if there are any last minute bike needs, let me know. I'd be glad to send one of the boys out for a "house call" for ya!
Safe travels down here!

2x4=8 which is right between 9 and 7 and for some reason this one came to mind 3x8=24 and again 8 is right between 9 and 7 and there are 3 legs in a tri. Sorry, if this makes no sense but I've been drinking and eating comfort food.
Have a great race!

Thanks Jones! Actually, my boyfriend came up with the exact 2x4=8 thing when I told him. It's gotta be a lucky number then.;):D

My brother-in-law is racing! Now I get to follow 2 people.
Have a great race, Wahine!
I was doing math with your numbers- I'm very bad at math.
2x4=8 + 1 =9
2x4=8 -1 =7

I was thinking more along the lines of 24/7 is how you've been preparing for this - physically and mentally - and the "9" inside has to have some significance for you.

I like it Oak!! 9 is a very lucky number in Chinese culture. I'm not Chinese but I have studied traditional Chinese medicine. :D

I try to look for patterns too. The one that came to me with yours was subtracting the outer numbers...7-2=5 and subtracting the middle 9-4=5. Kind of cool.

Have a great race!
I turned 24 in '97.
I'm told in Chinese culture that should have been a good year for me . . . in hindsight it was a pretty tough year. I challenged myself, perhaps overextended myself, but I grew a lot.

We made it down just in time to see all the cool kids finish. I was towards the top of the hill right before you make the turn to run down the chute. I saw her coming and TRIED to yell for her. She saw me at the last minute and seemed a bit shell shocked! :D
But I just HAD to be there to see her finish, so I was stoked that I made it in time. And my voice sounded like a frog being choked. So it was really hard to cheer.
She is one cool chica, and had an AWESOME finish!
WAY to go WAHINE!!!
Oh and Trek, the lip balm comment was my one sage piece of advice for doing an IM in the desert. I always have to have lip balm in my bento box, because it is so dry here. The humidity the other day was a whopping 9%!
It's no fun doing an marathon when your lips are chapped and killing you!!

You ladies rock!! This is the first time I've had enough time on a computer since I left home over a week ago to log onto TE. I'm glad you found my race report on the blog!
You have no idea how much I appreciate the support from all of you. It really does make a difference.
I had a lot of fun at this race. The run segment was fantastic, even with the first 5 miles being pretty ugly. The last 5 were great. The competitor in me took over completely and I was reeling them in.
Denise - thank you for your advice, I did have my lip balm. I did see you at the finish and it was great. You didn't surprise me at all, I was just happy to see you. It was great to meet you, I love your shop and the shirt you gave me is fantastic. I've been wearing it since I got up on Monday. I'm wearing it here in Moab as we speak.

I'm glad you like the shirt! (maybe I'll make a few more and offer them up to the ladies here. I really am proud of my silly new silk screening hobby.)
I felt so horrible after you guys left the other day, because I was still feeling under the weather. So next time I promise chipper Denise, not groggy, sounds like a frog being choked Denise... sigh...
I had big plans to be at the swim start, and spend all day at the race, but I was just too ill to even think about that. In fact running hubby had to prod me off the couch to go see the finish. But I was super glad that I was there to at least see you finish!
And one thing I forgot to send you home with, a custom EMC pint glass! DOH!!
So I'll pm you for an addy and send a couple up to you.
Enjoy the travels home. I envy your trip! You guys really made the most of the drive down!!

I saw it Karen, and I was happy that they showed that he did not make the cut off.
Some (well alot) of people will say "well he is still an Ironman, he did the distance".
But I totally disagree.
This is like every kid getting a trophy so no one gets their feelings hurt.
It was great that he put himself out there and tried, and showed a lot of courage for him to talk about it afterwards. Missing the cut off IMO is like going 132 miles (out of 140.6) and having to drop out due to illness. Yes, I know that one personally.
But the bottom line is that he did not make the cut off. He is not an Ironman. And he did not put it out there as if he was. He stayed the course and finished the distance, and I respect that. But what I respect more is what he did not say. And that was "I may not have made it in time, but I am still an Ironman."
Because technically he is not. And that is ok. As much as we all want to see people suceed, sometimes it doesn't happen.
And I am sick and tired of shows like BL glossing over failures as if they didn't happen.
I guess they learned their lesson after the marathon debacle a couple of seasons ago.
The one peeve I have, is that I guarantee he did not magically get a lottery slot. I hate that IM gives out celebrity or "feel good" slots for the nbc cameras. Yeah it plays well for the show, but I hate that just because you have a story you can call up and they'll hand you a golden ticket.
But yeah, I thought it was cool that two guys had done an IM (or long distance) tri. And the one guy coming in under 13 hours?! WOW!!
