Madeline Albright has written a book about her collection of brooches and how she used them in her diplomatic career. Looks interesting.

They're currently on display in NYC through January 2010, then will go to Arkansas, Washington DC and Indiana.

I heard an interview with her about her pins...sounds wonderful. I hope to see the exhibit in DC.

I heard her talk about them on Letterman and the Daily Show.
She's a firecracker.

We're currently planning a book signing/cocktail party-type gig with her at the store that's mentioned in the book.

When I was in Bosnia in the late 90s, Madame Albright was a big hit with the women I was working with, all of whom were highly-educated, "western." They thought she was really great, although they couldn't believe that she wore such short skirts. They blushed, and pointed to their knees. It's true, when she sits down, her knees are exposed. Whoop-de-do, I thought, but I didn't say it (how do you say "whoop-de-doo" in Bosnian, anyways?)

She's always been one of my favorites/heroines. If I recall correctly, she would wear certain pins to annoy Saddam Hussein.

If that book signing is open to the public, I might go! I would LOVE to meet her and get a signed copy of her book.

you probably say "whoop-de-doo" :D

/digression: I've never considered the length of Albright's skirts, but I do hear or read sometimes that women over x years (30, 40, I dunno) "shouldn't" wear short skirts, meaning skirts over the knee. Which always sounded strange to me, because I don't consider that length particularly short. Besides my legs look great now at 40 and I want to show them off.

BUT: I have noticed some of my co-workers wearing skirts quite a bit shorter than that with a split in the back, meaning that when they walk their legs are literally exposed almost all the way up to, well, their butt. It makes my eyes pop, and no doubt it does that of my male co-workers as well. To me this is a bit inappropriate for work no matter whether you're 20 or 40.

I just never thought I'd be the one saying or thinking something like that. I guess I am getting old. :D

Sorry to say, it's invite only and the boss is being very picky about who's on the list. This book is becoming big news, but I think he'll get a kick when I tell him that it's even being talked about at a women's cycling forum ;)

LOL. I didn't realized it was an invitation only thing but probably should have figured that out! Let me know if she signs extra copies, though, because I definitely would love the chance to buy one if there are any left.

Belgium must be the place! ;) You've met tennis stars, too.

Belgium is on my list of countries that I'd love to visit some day.
