AS you can imagine here in Maine, the cycling season is winding down. While we have a few bikes here to repair, have a trainer ride workshop scheduled in a couple of weeks, it's the time of year where peoples' thoughts might shift to another sport or a brief time to simply relax.

Yesterday, we received wonderful news! WE have a contract for a local school district to repair their bikes, however yesterday they decided that they wanted to order 24 mountain bikes :p) Their current inventory is 110 hard tail bikes, so now we are fortunate enough to add another 24 to their totals. The REALLY exciting part is that we were able to purchase some closeouts, and they are going to get some really nice bikes! My supplier (KHS) did a fabulous job at finding these bikes for us, and I'm so ecxited that the school will get this level of bikes :D

Yay, congrats!

I've never heard of a school having bikes. Are they for security officers, or for the kids? PE, or a race team? Whatever it is, it must be cool. :) Enlighten us!

Yes, I have to admit that this school disctirct is very well versed on health... whether it be through exercise, diet, or education. They have actually received two federal grants for their physical education programs. It is incredible what they have to offer for the students and the community. Not only did they build small gyms, but in their physical education program they also offer kayaking, canoeing, xc skiing, snowshoes, mtn biking, hiking, along with the normal core of classes. OOPS! they also have climbing walls. and of course, they offer spin classes along with some other types of classes available through their gym. Their focus seems to be adding incentive for lifetime sports... which is awesome. We live in a beautiful area that is prime for these sports , and a great way to encourage people of all ages to get outside and move.

This same school district became the first school in the state of Maine to offer a skateboard class. Although it's a fairly small school, it does indeed offer a very wide selection of PE courses.:D

The middle school in my town has a cadre of mountain bikes, too. And some three wheeled bikes for kids who need them.

Hopefully with more and more schools offering courses outside of the normal spectrum, some of these students will be inspired over time to stay active. And perhaps a new LBS, frame builder, or suspension guru will be born:rolleyes:
