Photos: women cycling with helmet & non-gear

OK....we're just wasting alot of time now searching the Internet. Where can one find photos of women cycling outdoors wearing a helmet and NON-cycling clothing? It cannot be indoors, ie. a cycling fashion show.


It's actually difficult to find lots of photos of cycling women wearing helmets but not wearing cycling-oriented clothing. The Copenhagen Cycling Chic site is not helpful and many European cycling sites. His personal library of cycling shots from his European trips have nothing to meet the criteria. Lots of chic cycling women --without helmets.

If it weren't raining right now, I would cycling-pose for dearie in an outfit that is non-cycling but chic. He didn't like photo of myself in baggy jeans photo while on bike. :(

I posted this elsewhere - this lady has her helmet, but the rest of the clothes is not something I would wear on a bike... the tag to the photo says something to the effect of cycling in Central Park. 10295

I've ranted abit about to him in the past and just now, about using photos in his cycling reports...that feature cycling women in non-cycling clothing but not wearing helmets. He wants strong visual messages to sometimes convey that now cycling is seen as chic or more people would cycle because it's chic/cool/mainstream now, yet easy to do by wearing ordinary (but nice, not overly sloppy) streetwear.

My stance is that in North America, since alot of jurisdictions prefer that people wear helmets, and if it's a cycling plan/report, then minimally there should be that as part of the overall message /image in a cycling report/vision of the future if we are moving towards a more cycling culture for North America....with helmets. :)

N.B.: Yes, I've been photo-featured cycling in some reports and articles of his. I am a convenient cycling group target: woman, non-white, etc. Anything positive to promote the cycling cause!

Have you checked Momentum magazine? It has a North American focus, but on riding for transportation and not fitness/competition.

Great suggestion, but he needs other photos.
Wish TE members could do their thing here..with your sunglasses on for anonymity. But many of us are more cycling oriented 'purists', apparel-wise. Or may be we're not, but quite stylish :confused:

Frankly I don't want to drag out my knee length flowing/flower child skirts for the photo-op. Haven't worn them in ..uh 15 yrs. And my black A-line dress skirt already has a ripped lining...

Gotta think abit about my own chic, non-cycling outfit on bike. Hmmmmm :o Let's see, my velvet purple blazer..really I do have one. :D

I tend to wear the same thing both on and off my bike....my everyday wear is black leggings or capris (often with a swingy short skirt), comfy street shoes or hiking boots, lightweight merino or cotton tops (not 'jerseys') wool vests or jackets. The only difference is that when I'm on my bike I add biking gloves and helmet and often a neon yellow hi-vis vest or tank top over my layers to be better seen by cars.
Thus, I never have to 'change my clothes' to get on my bike. I'm always 'ready for action' for a quick bike trip into town or a fitness walk between work jobs and chores. :D

And right this minute I'm wearing my best chamois Shebeest long distance shorts under my skirt to attend the 4 full length movies I'm going to see today at our town's annual film festival- DH and I look forward to the film fest all year...I watch 12 movies in 4 days, and i've found my secret weapon to be my best biking shorts which making sitting for hours way more comfy- plus they raise me up an extra 1/4" in the movie seat which is an advantage too! ;) :D

I never wear high heels, either on or off a bike. Stylin' clothes have to be functional for me, or I can't be bothered with them.

For me the line between clothes for every day wear, fitness walking, and biking is almost non-existent. (Of course it certainly helps to be self-employed, so I don't have to conform to office wear)

Thx for the links so far. You look stylish, cycling on the leaf-scattered trail, bikecanada. Gee, heeled pumps on a bike, like Bleeckerstgirl, I know I couldn't do it. I'm having problems imagining wearing loafers or other slip-on shoes on bike with my toe-clips.

Western side of Canada as well, by Edmonton. There's quite a few stylish riders nowadays around here. I heard of the blogger through redbike's website...but she's got some really nice outfits!

It's common here since helmets are compulsory and everyone wears them, but I don't know that the rest of what they wear is typically all that stylish. A search of NZ media sites might throw up something.

That's cool! I got it a few months ago at our bike commuter shop for $40. It is a really cute bike that's perfect for my relatively short, flat commute.

Looked at some of those fantastic tweed outfits for that annual tweed bike ride: goodness, either the clothing is from consignment shops or they are willing to get the lovely tweeds/wools cleaned again. I just couldn't cycle far in good, dressier clothing like that. Would worry about stains, etc.

I do have wool dress pants, plain colour gabardine wools in summer weight. But it's been 1/4 century since I've had textured winter wool dress pants/jackets.

Riding pretty blog is interesting. Also looks like annual cycling fashion shows in major cities worldwide, is becoming a trend.

Methinks I'm too practical to become as dressy as the ladies in the blog while cycling. Except for a poseur-on bike photo shoot. It'll come... :)
