So I gots me a new bike :D:D:D
She is a vintage cannondale. October 1986 production date according to the serial number (it's her 23rd birthday!). Her possible years are '86-89, according to her front headset logo style.
So I looked in the 1986 catalog and there was nothing like her, color wise that is. They didn't distribute her slate grey color until the 1987 catalog (which sort of makes sense because obviously they produce the bikes the year before.) And from 86-89, only one year had the slate grey color in any bike, and that was '87.
So I don't have my digital camera available but she lookse exactly like page 13 in the 1987 catalog (a team comp sr400):

With one difference: the "cannondale" lettering is white, not pink like the catalog. Her housings are pink though, which matches up. And also she has a vetta saddle but it is not the white "mundalita" as shown but a black "anatomic", which is on some of their touring models. All of the other components listed match up perfectly.
What really stumps me is her rear seat stays are stamped with "sm" which is the mountain bike series but obviously her frame doesnt look anything like the SM's in any of those 4 possible years, and her components are completely different from all of those as well.
The ST touring bikes, although they match component/frame look wise, are very similar but she has the sun minstral 700c wheels like the SR's, not 27's like ST's have. That's really the only difference there.
So is page 13 my best bet for an ID or should I be looking at other possibilites, like an ST with different wheel size, or another years model with that years' color? Does letter coloring/seat model matter? They all have very similar frames and components in all of those years, so is the color of the bike even what I should be looking at in the first place?
