So two weeks ago I hurt my back while moving into our new home. The doctor is pretty certain it is a slipped disc in my lower back and has put me on steriods to hopefully get back back to 'normal.'
Of course loveing to bike, this has made me nervous. Will this problem come back again? Is my biking over? :(
Anyone else have this problem and recover from it?
Thanks

Slipped L4/L5 disk a few years ago... It gives me trouble from time to time, but hasn't really affected my riding. I'd suggest doing physical therapy. After doing PT for my back, I now know what to do when it starts bothering me. As soon as my back starts to hurt a little bit, I do the PT exercises twice a day and I'm back to normal.
Before I did PT, I used to 'throw out' my back at least once a year. Usually it was so bad that I'd be bedridden for at least 3 days. Hooray for PT!

I herniated L5-S1 ten years ago. My ex- (a doc) looked at my scan and said "Oh my God!" so I guess it was really pretty blown out.
I saw the best doc ever (NOT my ex!) who sent me to PT and got me injections, which were quite humiliating, especially because they were performed by possibly the hansomest doc ever (also NOT my ex!).
I worked hard in PT and even figured out how to walk with the pool rehab ladies and managed to keep away from the surgeons, and now, ten years later, well, I can't say 'good as new' because I'm much older than new. But good enough.
And I get to ride my bike.
Hang in there. When my back hurt, it seemed like it took a really long time to get better and stupid little things like picking up a six pack or pushing a shopping cart would cause a setback.
