I hope this is helpful folks. Frogs are infamous for releasing when you don't want them to, and here is the solution. I'm going to pick some glue up today and am hoping this will work, as I love these pedals.

I have never ever had a problem and I've been riding frogs for 10+ years.
I do know you can pick up the phone and call them. I would do that before major surgery on my expensive pedals.

I called tech support at Speedplay and they told me to do the surgery! I took pictures today of the cleats, and the techs are going to take a look. They realize this is a huge problem with the cleats. I told them I absolutely love the pedals, and I think they are going to try to make things right.

I don't have any problems with detaching too easily while road biking with frogs - I'd say they probably detach too easily for really technical mountain biking... but then my mountain biking abiilties suck, so that's not really a biggie.
I do remember the bf sticking some shims under 1 pair of my cleats - nowhere near as involved as that frog surgery thing, I think he just cut something and shoved it under the white plastic piece - no gluing or trimming. I don't remember why, 'cause it was on my first pair of cleats that we mounted (they were used cleats)

I'd let my bike shop do the surgery. Then if they screw up, they will make it right.
Seems to me that this problem might be more inherent with riding recumbents because the entire leg/foot position is different. I've had Frogs on all 3 of my bikes and cleats on 3 pr bike shoes for 4-5 years or so, and I've never had any problems like this.

But I am using the Frogs on my mtn bike too and I still have a release problem!

K, I asked the bf - he didn't do a surgery or anything that elaborate - he just cut a piece of milk bottle and stuck it under the cleat as a shim. He didn't glue it.
so if you want to do something less permanent - that works.
