Really nice people....BUT!

After having my chain falling off problems, I took the bike in, explained the problem, they agreed it probably just needed FD adjustment. Picked it up today, tried to go for a ride...the thing ROTS! You can barely get the FD to shift (wouldn't do it without me on the bike actually) and when it does shift to the big chainring the chain rubs. How incompetent! Tomorrow, I'm calling to sign up for the bike maintenance class at the local U and taking the bike back to LBS to have them fix it for free (they better!). This is a big PITA b/c I have to take my 2 kids (age 5 and almost 2) with me. They are not real cooperative. Argh.

Thanks for letting me vent.

they didn't check it before giving it back to you??? Yikes, that IS bad... is there any other good shop nearby that you can take it to instead? I might consider doing that and demanding a refund if they did not resolve the prob... perhaps give them one more chance but tell them if not fixed you'll be needing your money back to pay to get it fixed... sorry you're dealing with this... when I had that prob as I mentioned I ended up with a new frame... but it had to be shipped to and from Wisconsin to SD... it took almost 3 months!!!

keep us posted...

ask them if they test-road the bike after working on it?......my LBS test rides Every bike they work on, even if it's just basic maintainence!

(they always wait for me to get there to test ride so I can giggle with them when their big, hulking, sweet mechanic rides my little 50 cm frame!)

I think the RD is messed up too. Now the front shifts OK, (although the chain did fall off once when I went to the little ring, while I was on a middle gear in back). I noticed that when I go through the rear gears, the two lowest are really quiet, and the next 2 make quite a bit of racket. That never used to happen, and correlates with those of the ones that I am on when I switch up front...so I'm guessing the rear is out of alignment a bit now too.

The LBS took care of me right away, while I waited (with 2 kids in tow), no charge of course. But no, they didn't test ride it, just checked it on the repair stand. The other LBS must have test ridden when I had my tune up 4 months ago, b/c I remember my seat was way off when I got it back.

I signed up for the maintenance course. So far I'm the only one. They need 2 more people or they cancel...so fingers crossed that everyone signs up at the last minute, b/c I'm desperate to learn this stuff so I don't have to keep bringing the bike in.

I still I had a nice, though noisy and slightly rough, ride this morning.
