My friend wants a trike

I have a friend who wants to become more active and her choice is a trike -- I guess a recumbent trike is the way to go. I really don't know where to begin to give her advice.

I am going to call a few bike stores and I'll probably go shopping with her, but I'd appreciate any tips.

I don't know all the reasons she's decided to do this, but I wonder if me being cheerful and eating like a teenage boy has anything to do with it. She said the other day that she's never seen me act this happy. She didn't specifically reference my biking, but since I spend the summer doused in endorphins I did wonder...

Or a Workman's Trike. But I wouldn't want to go long distances on one. My great aunt used to ride one a mile to her job at the bank (she was a VP way back before women were bank VPs).

The Hostel Shoppe has a good selection of fast recumbent trikes. I see a guy on my morning commute on a Catrike. Very nice, very fast!

I agree that your friend should look at Hostle Shoppe. I've always been pleased with their service, etc.

One other company she could consider is Lightfoot Cycles.

Their trikes are taller (easier to get on and off of) than the general run of recumbent trikes - if that's a problem.

I've been considering getting one of their trikes for touring. They seem well suited for that - or general grocery-getting.

That being said , bent trikes come in two different varieties Tadpoles (two wheels in front, drive wheel in back) and Delta (one wheel in front) Most are tadpoles, but there are some deltas besides the lightfoot (Sun (http://www.sunbicycles.com/), hase (http://hasebikes.com/2-1-startseite-aktuelles.html), and The Greenspeed Anura (http://www.greenspeed.com.au/anura_main.html)).
As momon bike allued to , tadpoles sit lower than even a recumbent bike. I remember being out at bentup having my bike serviced, and Dana gave me a catrike to play with to occupy my time. I thought I wasn't going to be able to get out of the seat;)
