I was showing off for DH on the tight banked curves at the local mt bike park a little too fast. I slid and crashed on my side. My front wheel isn't taco-ed, just dorito-ed beyond truing:mad:. I guess I'll be buying a new front wheel for my specialized Myka (with disc brakes). It's hard to imagine how I bent the wheel. I wasn't going really super fast, and it wasn't downhill slamming to a stop. I only weigh 104 lbs, so it wasn't my huge weight. The rest of me is pretty ok, a skinned elbow, pulled groin,a shiner on my hip and the physical therapist got my back into alignment again this am. Darn! Tokie

Oh, Tokie! Glad you are ok from your crash. I recently bit it hard on my roadie. Sux! Amazing how just landing the right (wrong) way can do so much damage to rider and bike. Can't say I have ever had a wheel taco before. Sure some of the other girls will chime in on that one. Well, if any positive--you have the mtb crash story to tell about it. A lot of trail peeps I know take pride in those stories and scars to go with them lol. Just as long as you are around to tell about it. Hope you and the bici are better soon.:)

so tacos are worse than doritos?

Sorry to hear about your bike!

Well fiddle! Contact Specialized and see if they will replace it. If not, ask them if they will hire you as their professional thrasher. ;)

Well, a taco shell is like a wheel folded in half - so I figure my now wavy shaped wheel is more like a Dorito. DH bought a replacement wheel for me at Performance ($69 on sale). My mtb isn't light or snazzy, so a fancy wheel isn't important. When he took the tire off, the dorito'ed wheel actually regained a rounder shape - it turns out that it was cracked along the welded spot. Maybe it was a manufacturing defect. I'll take it into the shop where I bought the bike (when the owner returns from his sick leave ) I am much better after a visit to my PT to get my back and hips in a straight line again. Just have to remember to wear long sleeves to work ("you crashed AGAIN! you need to find a new sport!"). They just don't get it. Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I won't be showing off on my mt bike again :o Tokie

PS Miranda, wow, read about your crash - yeouch! so sore, but sounds like you dodged the more serious injuries you could have gotten. My 2 unpredictable things on a bike are children and dogs. Very dangerous. People are so ignorant. Not immediately life threatening, but on last years Wildflower Century (starts and finishes in Creston, kind of a wide place in the road to nowhere) a man and his son were running a radio controlled toy car at the end of their long dirt drive to their house. There were strong prevailing winds that caused the dust to blow across the road in a pretty good cloud. They did for each rider. Now that's just rude, but that part of the state has the pathogens in their soil for Tularemia or "Valley Fever", a fungal disease that can be quite disabling. You contact it by inhaling it. I actually doubt they even were thinking of that though Ignorant jerks. Hoping your recovery is speedy, and that you have good music to spin to! Tokie

Was checking back in on the post and saw this. Thx Tokie for the well wishes. PTs are good people for sure. Mine has helped. And yes, people can be total idiots. Life is funny when it's happening to someone else.

OK... on you wheel weld... if you don't get the answer you want from the lbs owner, you might try contacting someone at the manufacturer directly. I did that once for a wheel weld. And they did replace it. Good Luck.:)

p.s. I think you outta just show off the bruises:cool:... maybe people outta get the idea 'whoa... hard core, better not mess with her'... but some peeps just don't have any filter between their brains and their mouths... can be most irritating after a while.
