I can't ride my bike without my bike 'puta!!!

Booohooo, my hand-me-down Sigma Sport RDS Wireless 'puta has finally given up the ghost, it was perfect for my needs.

OK, I want simplicity:

Current speed
Maximum speed
Odometer
Trip distance
Auto start/stop
Clock

AND ideally it must have large numbers!

Relying on you guys as usual, any advice?

Cheers.

Clock.......with no clock on her bike :(

I have a Cateye Strada Wireless. The ultimate in simplicity. Big numbers, shows speed and time simultaneously. I can see it without my contacts in.

+1 on the Cateye Strada Wireless. The speed read-out is quite large, and the smaller numbers (average, distance, etc.) are still a decent size. No buttons to fumble for either- just tap the lower part of the screen to change views, and the bracket pushes a little button from underneath.

I'd buy one again.

Many thanks for that, just the advice I was after.

I was looking at the Cateye Vectra Wireless but it looks like the Strada has definitely got the edge on it, good reviews.

.................Dear Father Christmas, I would like.........

I am upgrading from my cheap-o Bell to a Cayeye V3 (http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/460) as soon as it gets here :)

I looked at others but I wanted nice BIG numbers on the display for everything it was going to show, and I also wanted a HRM.

The Vectra is a little cheaper but doesn't have average speed, something that I can't live without.

Based on my experience with my Garmin and knowing where you live, if I were getting a wireless computer I'd be darn sure the sending unit is waterproof. Garmin is good about replacing their cadence/wheel sensors under warranty whenever I get rained on unexpectedly (or forget to take it off before washing my bike), but it's a PITA and it really would be an unacceptable design flaw if there were any other computers that do what theirs do.

Oh that is so kind of you but I would pay the p&p, as that would perhaps be quite a lot.

I will PM you shortly.

Now where else could I go on the internet and have somebody be so kind and thoughtful?

Clock................ticking very fast! :)

Hi crazycanuck

After much thought, I was working out what the postage would possibly be and all the trouble for you to send it over to the UK.

I had been watching 4 x Cateye Strada Wireless Computers on eBay and they all went for silly money, averaging over £30. Initially the cheapest I could find brand new was £35.99.

So, I started searching the internet and I came across an extremely good site, no postage plus a discount of 10%, which brought the item down to £24.29!!!

Now the company www.probikekit.com appear to have very good reviews, although based in the UK, they send to the US etc and very quickly too.

Again, thank you so much for offering to help me out, it was such a nice gesture. :)

Just wanted to give a big "thumbs up" for Pro Bike Kit! I have ordered from them numerous times, and have never had a problem (and I'm in the US). Their prices are definitely some of the lowest that I've found.

That is good to hear, I did check up on reviews for them and they were all good.

Wow, I only ordered it at midnight 5 Oct and received it this morning, 8 Oct. Also free delivery for UK.

I am so looking forward to having it on my bike, I hate not having a 'puta on my bike.

Many thanks for all the advice, all duly taken. :)

That's great news! A friend of mine had told me that he heard on the news, that there was a postal strike in the UK, but I guess it must be over now, right? I had been holding back from placing an order with PBK, since I didn't know what the status was of this postal strike. Now I can place my order.:D

Yes, it is still going on but it appears to be intermittent. Not sure how or who it is effecting more but so far we are fine down here in Poole, Dorset, which is right at the bottom of UK in the middle on the coast. Perhaps it is worse in London, not sure.

Perhaps it is worth placing your order, you have nothing to lose, I know the company is based up in the north of England. Maybe send them an email, which is on their website to see how things are?

Good luck anyway.

Oh dear, isn't it annoying when you get all carried away and rush something, only to discover you have ordered the incorrect item!!

Cateye Strada 8 Function Cycle Computer

Cateye Strada Wireless 8 Function Computer

Yes, you guessed it right, I ordered the first one which is obviously NOT wireless...........doh!

However, just been reading up on the wired version and it would seem quite a lot of people prefer this?

Any views?

Can't speak to those particular models, but wired and wireless each have their own advantages.

Wired computers are less expensive, have only one battery and consume less battery power on the main unit, don't have issues with sending unit failure, and are one less source of RF exposure for you.

On the other hand, initial installation of a wired unit takes a little bit more time, they don't have as clean an appearance, you may have less flexibility with sensor placement. If you break a wire (not common, but it does happen), you probably have to replace the whole wiring harness, because generally if a wire breaks, it's going to break at one end or the other where it isn't repairable.

Personal preference. Myself, if I hadn't developed a consuming need for GPS and HRM and downloadable data in my old age, I'd still be using my wired Cateye.

One more question, if using a wired computer, does it make it a bit more awkward when the bike has suspension forks, or it still possible?

Nothing is ever straightforward is it?

So, pretty please, opinions?

Cheers.

Never tried it, but with a front wheel sensor it looks like a guaranteed way to break the wire.

If you have cadence, then the wheel sensor goes on the rear wheel as well, and would be okay as long as it's a hardtail.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, yes, it's going back.

Back to eBay...........:D

Have just contacted them regarding returning the item, wow, what an excellent company to do business with. You go online to get a returns label etc. post it off and within two days I had the money back in my bank account!

Now that is what I call impressive and I believe it works the same for overseas customers.

Well done Probike Kit. :)
