View Full Version : Funky smell in crawlspace...

I live in the PNW and to make a long story short, we had some standing water in our crawlspace. So we had a plumber install a sump pump and lay down new plastic vapor barrier. But, ever since they came out, a musty/earthy smell is coming from the crawlspace. I can't figure out what it is...there's no mold or anything down there, and it's not a sewage smell. The vents are open in the crawlspace and you can even smell it from outside the house. Any ideas on what it is or how to get rid of it? The plumber said to let things dry out but I think I'm not convinced.

check for mold anyway. just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. It can be really nasty if left unchecked.
There is a really good product, Concrobium Mold Control that you get at Home Depot to spray on the offending areas, works wonder and it's worth a try.

Similar question. There was lots of rain and flooding in my area, but I didn't have any water in my house. But, now it smells like a cat has marked my basement. Problem is, I don't have a cat - haven't had one in the house in 10 years.
Any ideas?
