Hey CindySue - sounds like fun!

I'd like to come too - depending on what my Sunday ride turns out to be (I only have 1 more week until my Mt Diablo attempt - and I'm getting nervous! I want to be as well prepared as I can be, so I think I need to do some climbing this weekend as well...)

Where exactly at Rockridge BART is the meetup place?

Trek - Too bad you can't come - maybe you'll feel a bit under the weather (cough cough) on Saturday when work starts, but be miraculously recovered by 9:30! ;)

Ellen and BikerZ, et. al,

We'll be at the bottom of the escalator.

BikerZ (and anyone else interested), I'll probably ride old tunnel to grizzly peak on my way back to walnut creek. You are welcome to join me. I'll be riding my clunky comfort bike (at least until the insurance money kicks in and I can get a new road bike), so you can count on a nice slow pace up the hills.

See ya there!
Cindy

I see you live in Berkeley. And most of our rides are in and around Berkeley since that is where most of the girls live too. You're welcome to join us anytime!

sounds like a good one! I'll try to come if the lunachix end up cancelling our plan to watch the tour (taped) at Triple Rock Brewery in Berkeley.............

Good idea Cindy -

Back up OTR and along Grizzly for awhile sounds good - I'll ride with you a while then turn back towards home. Starting down at Bart will be a longer climb than what I have been doing - - but nothing compared to Mt D!

Tuesday evening was my first time all the way up OTR without stopping at all (except at that stop sign where you cross 24) - a big deal for me! Speed was pretty slow (computer wasn't working, so I have no idea what it was...), but steady. Can we strap a few cinderblocks on your clunker to really handicap you? :D

hahahahaha Ann - that won't be necessary - but I got a good laugh out of it! I think I will be painfully slow..........

I think I will be painfully slow.........Well, we'll see about that!

I'm curious - what will your route be back to WC - will you take Pinehurst down?

I'm curious - what will your route be back to WC - will you take Pinehurst down?

I'll take OTR to Grizzly Peak to Fish Ranch - hop on the freeway for two exits (yes bikes are allowed on 24 between Fish Ranch and Orinda), then take the Orinda trail back through Orinda, Lafayette, and then Pleasant Hill to Walnut Creek. Typically I would go back via Bear Creek Road and Alhambra to Pleasant Hill - but I think I would have a real ROUGH time getting up (I'd end up walking up!) the steep side of Pig Farm hill on my 7 speed clunker!

... on my 7 speed clunker!OK - I take back what I said about the cinderblocks!

Looking forward to it...

tempting, but then there would go the perfect attendance award ... which around here is maybe post-its. Sunday my neice is having a BBQ in Berkeley...so I'm trying to be Diablo ready on the cycleops.

Yes Cindy Sue- I think going up the back side of Pig Farm would definitely be a test! I don't even like to do it on my roadbike!! Was out that way this past Tuesday, but we went to the Bearclaw Bakery in El Sobrante (?) and then home via the yucky refinery. But I got 70 miles in so I was happy! :) :)

Let me know when you get set up with a new bike.

The Benicia Bike Club stars again! That's Artic Bill you see on that pic of the Sunday Chronicle wearing our club jersey. He did 114 miles at 19MPH and was the first guy to get to Palo Alto. He rode with us today and said it was a looong ride around the bay but very well organized. Just love all that publicity for cycling in Benicia!!! :D :D :D

How was the ride for the ladies? :p :p

is there an online version? Was that the Bay in a day double he did? i saw some BIAD riders when I was driving to Berkeley Sat. morning.....

The Bay Trail ride was very nice. Ann, Ellen, and Ellen's friend (Darn! I can't remember her name??) joined us. It was quite fun chatting it up with everyone. I think they were quite gracious to slow down for me on my 7 speeder. Arrgh! I need another road bike and soon! I won't be doing any hills on that beast......... :(

I found this article (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/07/24/BAGMVDSP2T1.DTL) on the Bay in a Day double. I helped at the first rest stop in Pinole manned by the Quackcyclists, but wasn't paying enough attention and didn't notice the Benicia club jersey if Arctic Bill stopped. Strangely ;) the course didn't follow the Bay Trail, which would have made for a slow (but pleasant) ride.

Thanks everyone for scheduling such a fine ride. Megan (my friend) enjoyed it very much and it was nice riding near the water given the temperatures that developed yesterday!!!

Cindy, I hope that insurance money comes through quickly, although you did great on your alternative wheels....

Take care,
Ellen

That was a nice ride, good company, and great to be out of the worst of the heat! My cyclometer showed 27 miles by the time I got back to Rockridge Bart - I guess I didn't take the most direct route after we all split off!

Thanks for organizing the ride, Cindy - what a trooper you were on your cruiser! Keep us all posted on your progress getting youself some new wheels!
