Yesterday we did "Carol's Century" on the tandem, a ride created by a member of the local randonneur organization. This is partly the same ride we did at the end of June, when we saw the incredibly cute, knobbular, and pink-nosed foal.

I can't say enough about how gorgeous it is for the first fifty miles of this ride (the second fifty are meh). It goes from Seattle to Woodinville to Duvall to Carnation to Fall City to Issaquah. All that is horse country and farmland, and it is just beautiful. I think some of the farmers that come to our farmers' market are here, since we see the most incredible fields of flowers clearly intended for cutting and selling. We only had a cell phone camera with us so couldn't get the best pictures, but we tried. This is what the countryside looks like:

Here's one of those fields of flowers, although the cell phone doesn't get us very close:

We went looking for that foal we met in June, to see how he's changed. We went right by the place where we'd seen him, but were so disappointed that he wasn't there. But he's far from the only foal in that territory. We turned down the next road and saw this mare and foal:

They were lovely! Mom had a tag with her name, Country Whirl, but baby didn't have one (and I forgot to check colt or filly). But here's more baby:

And then finally:

I'm in love with the first fifty miles of this ride. I can't wait to do it next spring and see the new foals. We also saw bald eagles, a doe and fawn, sheep, goats, countless horses and cows. And 3,775 feet of climbing in fairly short and arduous doses. What a fabulous ride!

I love the loops out there in the valley, and was somewhat disappointed to miss out on the perfect weather yesterday. I had to drive 202 from Redmond to Snoqualmie to be a 'paid volunteer' (yup...I paid to volunteer!) at the Boeing Classic. Working the golf tourney is a lot of fun, but I passed every cyclist en route with envy.

Friends of mine did a ride to Remmlinger Farms yesterday, and picked up some produce. He was on his pink Schwinn Paramount fixed gear & gave his wife a good laugh when he took off to chase someone on a tri bike...the carrot top waving in her husband's pocket was quite a site, apparently.
