I'm making a list of rides that I'm thinking of doing in September/October. The Indian Head (metric) is a definite for me unless it rains, and I'm still deciding on the others. BTW I've retired from full centuries, so I would be looking at metrics, half-metrics or something in between depending on the routes available.

I know some folks here are doing the Tour du Port - what about any of the others? Or what other rides are y'alls doing? There's also BikeDC (which I think Zen is doing), the PPTC Century in Berryville VA, the Civil War Century in Thurmont MD, the Sea Gull...?

That Potomac Heritage tour sounds very interesting. Unfortunately, I'll be in Baltimore on the 11th attending a funeral service for Edgar Allen Poe, so I'll have to remember that ride for next year.

BF and I are signed up to do the Northern Neck River Ride on Saturday, September 26. If all goes according to plan it will be my first century! ... :)

I waited too long to make a hotel rez---everything within easy distance of the start (@Kilmarnock) is booked. So we're staying in historic Williamsburg, about 30mi from the start. I figure we'll make a weekend of it---a bit of history, a whole lot of riding.

In prep, I'm doing the metric century route of Tour de Valley over Labor Day weekend (September 6; start: Waynesboro, VA), and then a 50-miler near Harrisonburg on September 13 with fellow TE'er IFJane, her DH Michael, and my BF.

I'll be in Baltimore on the 11th attending a funeral service for Edgar Allen Poe,

Good lord, they haven't buried him yet?

I'm doing the old CWC and I'd like to do Bike DC (http://www.bikedc.net/routes.htm) but I'm not sure about doing that by myself...

Here's another nice fall biking event: The Fall Foliage Festival in Staunton, Virginia, about 3 to 3.5 hours from the D.C. area; 2 hours from Richmond. Routes of varying length. October 16-18. Mighty perty scenery, especially in mid-October when the mountains are decked out in reds, oranges and yellows!

I'm so glad you'll be doing the River Ride, Kathi! I spend most weekends in that area, but alas, not that weekend. It'll be the first time I will miss the River Ride. It's a great ride-little traffic, good support, friendly, nice views. It can be a bit windy, but it's pretty flat with a few surprises. Have fun, and if I possibly can make it, I will.

My first century was the NYC Century. I did it in 2003. Enjoyed it alot.

That Golden Apple ride looks interesting. I might look into it for next year. The start is a bit of a drive from my parents' house but probably no worse than the drive from where I live up to the Civil War Century.

The Golden Apple is a great ride. I've done it a few times already and always look forward to it. Definitely keep it in mind for next year.

I just got my registration packet for Columbus Fall Challenge. I'm undertrained and frickin' TERRIFIED. On the one hand I'm telling myself it's okay if I only finish one day, as many, many people do. On the other hand this was a task I laid out for myself early in the year and it's no one's fault but myself that I'm undertrained. :o:(

OakLeaf, you're not undertrained -- you're practicing for next year! ;)

Maybe he's just been hanging out with Elvis.

Maybe he's just been hanging out with Elvis.

maybe all the rain this spring/summer washed him out and he needs to be reburied.

2009 is the 200th anniversary of Poe's birth. B'more's had events going on all year. You should see the list of folks invited to speak (http://www.poebicentennial.com/events.html) at his service.

Sorry for the thread drift...
