Well, I finally got out there today and rode. I had some real mind games going on with myself this morning. It was the first day of school here, and my son started his freshman year so I took him dropped him off and came home to get ready to go. (MIND says) Not so fast girly!!! Your phone is now dying and you can't leave the house when you haven't ridden in a year without it. (determination) Okay, put phone on charger for about half an hour to give it enough charge to use it if need be. Go to TE, read some post and get more determined to go. You girls always make me want to ride.
(Mind) Okay, I bet I can get you to change your mind. How bout these apples. So begins my morning of running to the bathroom. I know TMI, sorry.
(determination) This to will pass. 10 am comes around and I think I am finally able to get ready to go. I start putting on my clothes and crossing my fingers that my shorts still fit. HA!!! thank goodness for strechy lycra. LOL. Now go get some water bottles and get your helmet and gloves on and get going, and don't forget the phone on the charger.
(Mind) Go ahead, get some ice. There is no ice. Now you are going to have to spend more time busting ice trays (yes I still use ice trays, LOL) and it will get all the hotter outside while you do so. I get so aggrevated to be the only one in the house that bust trays for ice, and everytime or it seems that everytime I go to get ice, there is none.
(determination) bust trays and get going. Fill them back up later.
(Mind) Got that feeling of needing to go to the bathroom again, don't you.
(determination) Nope, not gonna do it. Grabbed water bottles, filled them, stuck them on the bike, got my helmet on, gloves on, grabbed the bike and headed out the door.
Got down the road a little ways and thought wow, this feels really weird. I feel so scrunched up, and my handle bars seem so squirley.
Op, there goes my mind again. I WILL ride at least a few miles today.
(Mind) It is soooo hot out here. You better turn around or you are liable to pass out in this heat since you aren't use to this. You won't make it up those hills.
(determination) Keep going, you can go at least a few miles. Started peddling and getting my sea legs or bike legs back a bit. Went up that first hill, pretty slow, granny gear, but I made it. I didn't get off the bike once.
Determination 1, Mind 0

It was fun. It was hot, and I didn't go to far from the house cause my mind did work on me a little. I was a bit afraid that I would go to far and then not be able to make it home. So I stayed close to the house and just went back and forth on a road about 1/2 mile or so from the house and just went back and forth on it, up one hill, down the other, and then back and I ended up with 5 miles. That last hill coming up our dirt road was really hard but I have to do it to get home, so it was slow, but again, I made it without getting off.
It's not 20 like I use to do, but it was a hard 5 for sure. LOL

Thanks for all the help and encouragement girls. Now maybe my mind will leave me alone tomorrow and maybe I will be able to get back out there earlier than today before it gets so bloomin hot.
AND, maybe I will go a little further. If not, I won't feel bad about it. 5 miles is better than no miles.

I'm picturing your "mind" as a very tiny devil, and "determination" a little angel, both sitting on your shoulders, talking into your ears. Maybe I watched too much "Bewitched" growing up. ;)

Great ride report. Good going!

Seems in hot weather, getting past the first couple if miles is always the hardest. I have the same discussion with myself whenever it's hot (and muggy).

Glad "Determination" won out over "Mind" :D

Congrats on getting out there. I loved reading the dialog between mind and determination.

Good on ya', Donna! The first time is the hardest, and I still sometimes play the same kinda mind games. But invariably, I am always glad I got out and rode, even if I have NO desire prior to the ride and can think of a million excuses not to.

It's easiest for me if I ride with someone, because I will let myself down WAY before I'll let a friend or my DH down. If you could find a riding buddy, y'all could help motivate each other.

Keep it up!
