Hurricane! Well, it's staying off our coast, but still having an impact. Rode out to Brenton Point (my regular ride) this morning before traffic got silly. The seawall was in pretty good condition yesterday. Not so much today!

The first pic was taken on the way out. By the time I went back (20 mins later) the road was covered in seaweed.

Fun ride, but so humid and foggy, it was like riding through hair gel. Gooey!

Had a really good 50 miler today. Started off in the mountains and ended with rolling hills - my favorite way to ride. Had a fun experience - while climbing the hard part of Mt Eden (those in the Bay area will know the hill I mean - it's not long, but it's steep) a really good looking, very nice guy started riding with me. Very friendly - not creepy in any way just one of those very outgoing people (I'm married to one - I recognize the type). He got me over the hill faster than I would have gotten over it alone, and stayed with me for the next five or so miles chatting away. Then he had to veer off to help a couple of ladies with a flat tire. I had to laugh - a modern day knight in shining lycra with an old steel 10 speed for his steed instead of a horse... That kept me smiling the rest of the ride and encouraged me to chat with others (there is a tour today that went along my normal route - tons of cyclists out there - great to see). I met all sorts of interesting people today.

I had a nice ride on a day that I thought I wouldn't even ride. I've been struggling with the heat and humidity which has been going on for over a week. My DH sort of forced me out, saying we would go slowly. So we chose our shadiest local route and off we went. The sun had gone in shortly after we left, thankfully. Although it was only 82, the humidity was 75%. As we started, I remembered a guy from our club was leading a ride in the area today, which goes up our street. We saw a few people from the ride, going in the other direction, but there just seemed to be a lot of riders out, and not the people we usually see. Then we stopped for a shady drink and saw a support tent set up in Carlisle, near the school. There was an MS ride going through all of our favorite streets! I had seen nothing publicized about this ride, I only knew about their Cape Cod and NH rides. Anyway, near Great Brook Farm we got rained on, which felt good and it only lasted about 5 minutes. After leaving this area, we headed into Chelmsford for a bit and saw many riders on the MS ride, followed by a couple of support vehicles. As we got within 3 miles of the house, it started sprinkling again and within 15 minutes of us getting home, a deluge opened up, with plenty of thunder and lightening. We timed it perfectly, but I felt bad for those MS riders.
About 24 miles. Am anxiously awaiting the return of cool and dry late summer conditions on Monday.

I too wasn't really planning on going out today. I've done my two longest rides on back to back days, and was feeling stiff and a little sore.

However it was the PERFECT Kansas day ~ 78 degrees, no humidity, just a light breeze, my bike BEGGED me to ride it.

So I figured I'd just go out for a couple miles to knock the kinks out, I decided to take it nice and slow and easy. I ended up doing my longest ride yet!!

14 miles, got some hills in and can feel I'm already doing much better on them. YAY.

Lee and I went on one of our favorite routes today - from home to Woodside, with lunch at Roberts Market.

Yee gods there were tons of cyclists in Woodside today!

Funny happening - come to find out, a guy that I know online that I have never actually met in person (David G) was sitting right across the road from me at Roberts Market.

And how did I know that? He took a photo of his friends sitting along the steps of Roberts (who just happened to be sitting near Lee and me), and posted it on Facebook. Yep, there we were! :D

Excellent ride, about 40 miles with a little bit of climbing. It's so nice to get back into the groove again. :cool:

I had a fun adventure today. I'm directionally challenged, so I always map out my routes ahead of time, especially to places I've never been. I had a route all planned out and downloaded to my Garmin...and then the Garmin wouldn't turn on. I wasn't confident enough of the route and the roads without it, so I decided to just meander down the Springwater Trail instead. I figured I'd just do an easy out and back, so no way to get lost.

But I did (sorta). I ended up getting on a road I should have crossed and riding east instead of northeast. Fortunately, I figured out where I was pretty quick and figured I could get on the 205 bike path to head back north. I wandered around a bit looking for an entrance to the trail when I ran into some guys doing construction right where I thought the trail should be. Sure enough, that was it, but that part's closed until mid-September. Fortunately, he was able to point me in the right direction to the point I could pick it up.

I'd actually been on that trail once before, so I was able to get myself pointed toward home without further ado. 25+ miles, and a real confidence builder...I *can* survive without a map!

Tour de Menlo went right through Woodside - which would help the numbers. Also went by my neck of the woods - lots on our roads, too.

Ah, I saw some removable direction markers on the road up there, but I wasn't sure if it was for today.

It actually wasn't at all windy, and I stayed far from the spray, more for the bike than myself!

I'm afraid to go and look at what's left of my road. At best, it will be completely covered with seaweed and rocks, and I'm sure will be impassable. I'll wait until tomorrow to see what the damage is. Crazy crowds out there now.

Since I'm having problems Transporting my really cool recumbent with my focus, I decided to ride downm and make a loop of the auto center.
To get there , I went by Guasti (http://www.csupomona.edu/~library/specialcollections/guasti/index.html) . It was a "planned community at the turn of the last century, and out lived it uselfullness, so it's being redevelop as a turn of this century planned community.
