Does anyone have a Nikon Coolpix S220 digital camera? I've been looking for a point and shoot/compact digital camera, Best Buy has this one on sale and I like the features + price. Some of the reviews aren't that great, I'm always somewhat skeptical about some of the online reviews. So I thought I'd check with you gals to see if anyone has this camera.

I can't say that I know anything about the camera. My last P&S purchase was Pentax that has 10x zoom. I have a less powerful Canon P&S that is a bit more similar to the Nikon. The lack of a more powerful zoom ulimately bothered me.
As for reviews, I agree that customer reviews can be less than helpful. I have looked at this website before for "professional" reviews. http://www.digitalcameratracker.com/nikon-s220-reviews-sample-photos/
I don't have that specific model, but I bought the coolpix S600 last summer and was extremely happy with it. That is until last Saturday when I discovered the lens wouldn't open when turned on. I've yet to send it to Nikon, I'm hunting for the receipt and hoping it's still under warranty.

go read the reviews on amazon. Read the reviews on dpreview.com and steve's digicams. The latter 2 usually are very thorough and review most of the digital cameras that come out
And when you're reading the reviews on amazon - take them with a grain of salt, the same as you'd do with a bike review - is the reviewer expecting too much out of the camera, did they just never read the manual and are they complaining about something the camera can do, but they just don't know how to make it do? Then decide what you really want out of your camera and if you can live with the limitations that are being described.
I can't say I've ever used a nikon coolpix - the bf had one that I hated, but we fried it using it in a kayak on salt water, so problem solved.

I have to agree with Catriona. I always look up any camera I'm considering on Steve's Digicams.

Exactly why I just got a waterproof camera (Fuji Finepix Z33WP). For my "take everywhere" camera I wanted one small enough for a jersey pocket, that I wouldn't have to pull out of a ziploc bag every time I wanted to use it. I don't like the fact that it has no lens cap - but I keep it wrapped in a microfiber cloth. And it doesn't take such great pictures in low light, a common criticism among the reviewers, but I didn't really buy a snapshot camera for low light situations anyhow. There are a couple of other waterproof P&S's on the market now, but the Fuji is by far the smallest, almost as small as non-waterproof compacts.
But yeah. +3 to dpreview and stevesdigicams.

Ziplock bags don't work. The nikon was in a ziplock bag when it got fried.
I have a pentax optio w60 waterproof camera that I bought last year, because I was doing too much salt water kayaking to risk my good camera.
dpreview just did a review comparing many of the waterproof cameras

Thanks for the links and info. Based on all the reviews I decided against the Nikon and went with a
Canon SD1200is, it was a bit more money, but my other bigger camera is a Canon and I've been very happy with it. Just charged the battery and we're going up north camping tomorrow till Friday, can't wait to take some pics.
