View Full Version : 35 mph wreck

I'm lucky to be walking today!
I wrecked on a descent at about mile 20 of a 50 mile endurance race... I lost control and somehow became airborne, bouncing once in a rock garden and sliding another 10 feet or so downhill... I ended up laying on the ground for a minute and slowly working my way back onto my feet. Then I finished the race and came in 2nd :D
Besides some major bruising, a cracked helmet, and a pulled groin muscle, I'm just really sore. I downloaded my Garmin file for the race... apparently I was going 35 mph when I lost it. I knew it felt that fast, but I had convinced myself that it wasn't because I didn't think I'd be up & around if I'd been going that fast.
I feel like I've had a near death experience...

Hey glad you're alive. Monitor that head for awhile since you cracked your helmet.

Wow, I am glad you did not get hurt too bad. Just make sure everything is okay, since you did crack your helmet Congrats on the 2nd place finish. I would also ice some of those bruised areas.

:eek::eek: So glad you're okay!
Heal up quick and take it easy while you're healing. Pain is exhausting even when there's no "major" injury behind it.

You are a woman on a mission! I read your post on the "OTHER" site. I hope you are "only" sore. Sounds like a mild concussion among other things. Keep track of your body. Just in case something doesn't feel like it should. My husband endowed really bad on the mountain bike one day, went home thought nothing of it. Well he cracked a vertebrae on his back and never new it, until the back surgery. Not trying to scare you, you are young and heal well. Just saying, don't ignore the pain. Tough girls tend to blow stuff off. I too am one of them! Some may call it...stubborn!

Oh my goodness!! Good grief, girl! Glad you lived to tell about it. Where was the race? How is your bike?

It was in North Georgia... thanks for all the well-wishes. After some ice and a couple hours of riding, it seems that the only injury that's sticking around are the random bruises and the pulled groin. I hope it goes away quickly!
The bike is good- wheels didn't even need truing!

If you cracked your helmet it might be wise to get your head checked. Heck since you kept going I would recommend a full mental check-up too. :p J/k glad you and the Niner are okay!

Wow!!! managed to get up and ride after a 35MPH crash into a rock field.
It's late tonight but if you are are still up and reading this, have some one check on you for next several hours. Have them engage you in conversation to make sure you're okay.
If you wake up with a headache tomorrow morning go see a doc ASAP. crash like yours should never be taken so lightly.
Wish you a speedy recovery and congrats on your podium finish.

It was pretty traumatic... I think the craziest part about it was seeing exactly how fast I was going when I crashed. I walked around for a good part of the day yesterday wondering how I managed to be feeling so un-injured.
It's just the groin that hurts now- anyone got advice other than rest & ice?

No other good advice from me other than that. I had a groin injury from ballet years ago and it took forever to heal because I kept taking class.
You're like Jens!

So sorry to hear about your crash. If you haven't been checked out yet with x-rays I would strongly consider it. There are some small pelvic bones that can fracture easily in a crash, and I can't help but wonder if you could be perceiving something like that as 'groin pain'.
Hopefully its just soft tissue damage, but even that can take quite a while to heal, and sometimes it can be speeded up by physical therapy, so you may also want to consult with a PT on what you should be doing to heal as quickly as possible.

Well, at the suggestions of Trisk and a friend of mine who is a PT, I went to a doc back on Tuesday to get a hip X-ray. Nothing is broken... he says I have a torn hip adductor and that it will heal on its own in a few weeks.
So, of course, I'm racing in the Tennessee State Championship Road Race today :D
