In 1939 Eva Hamilton set out to ride 100 miles in 100 days, proving that women can be as athletic as men. Here are some videos of Eva.

I'd do it if I could quit the job ;) Way to go, girl! Bet her bike was a little heavier than the ones we're used to...

Inspirational to say the least. Need to turn into a poster of sort to get women to ride their bicycle. 100 mile per day is pretty serious. That's a full time job.
Not to mention war time in Europe.

I'll bet she was doing circuits, not traveling across Europe. I tried unsuccessfully to find out more about here but could not.
Anyone have access to international library catalogs?

OMG - did anyone listen to the commentary on that first video? I just about snorted my lunch at my monitor! It was hilarious!
shootingstar - I'm pretty sure she did all that specifically for the video as an example of how NOT to ride.

Yeah, it was pretty funny. I really enjoy watching vintage films just for the narration alone. :D

Following up on sundial's link, I went backwards researching:
A tiny bit more (but still doesn't totally satisfy my curiosity for facts), you have to scroll down on this website (which is interesting itself for some lighter female cycling stuff plus serious):

Stuff on Eva Hamilton, and more supportive info. is from here, a real university library and research archive, which unsurprisingly, libraries do not have time to digitally scan their complete collections for world viewing... :o

That's what I was interested in finding. Thanks shootingstar. :)
