Carbon Shoes Solve Hot Spots

I realize I am rehashing an old subject, but I have been going thru the old threads, and it really does seem definitive. Those of you that have switched to carbon soled shoes seem to solve the issue of hot spots.

Not sure if there are more happy mtb owner or road shoe owners.

+1 to this. I recently got a pair of carbon sole road shoes and they have helped immensely with my hot foot issues. I have yet to try them out in extreme heat (extreme for me is over 90 :p) but I don't like riding in that type of weather anyway so I probably won't know how they will fare!

My shoes were quite pricey but I figure with all the miles many of us put on our bikes, I could afford to go for the luxury on my feet. This is how I have attempted to justify the purchase to family members who are not into cycling themselves (i'm working on it :)) and are astonished at the cost. As far as I was concerned, I couldn't put a price on happy feet (or a happy behind, for that matter. Right, ladies? :D).

My carbon soled shoes did not resolve the hot spot issue. Arch pedaling did. :)

Arch pedaling is where I place my foot respective to the pedal. I like platforms because I can change it often. :)

Yes- both mtb and road.
Road- Shimano R099 and Sidi Zephyrs. Great shoes. The Shimanos fit me a little more comfortably in normal to thick socks, and the Sidis work better with thin socks as they have a smaller toebox.

For MTB, I have Shimano WM80s. Love em. Nice wide toe box. I had some Sidi Bullet 2s, but they flexed and hurt my arches (which really aren't arches, they are more like flat planks). I don't use those any more.

Stiff fiber soles in properly fitting shoes, with good insoles, work wonders. I put the Specialized BG footbeds with the proper vargus wedges in the two road shoes, and the Louis Garneau heat customizable ones in the mtb shoes. I used to get hot feet all the time- terrible- it would make me miserable. Now I ride for hours and my feet feel great. And IMO I think Shimano is the best value in cycling shoes (at least their fiber soled shoes). Great shoes, well made, reasonable prices.
