I don't worry about speed as of yet. How many miles do you all average on a daily ride? So far mine have been between 7-9 miles. I can't believe how much I'm loving this. Why didn't I do this sooner in my life. It's always been there for me. My husband is way into it and has been trying to get me into it for YEARS. Never to late I say!!:D

That's completely individual. Nothing wrong with 7-9. You're right where YOU should be if it feels good.

I usually ride about 20 miles a day - if I can get out of work early enough or it's cool enough I'll do 30 or so. But often I wait till 7 or so to head out for a ride to try to let the humidity & heat of the day go away.

Welcome loride! So glad you discovered cycling!!
Avg. for me is about 13. That's riding from my house, to and around the lake and back. Sometimes I'll do two laps at the lake, but often I'll just do one (because of time, heat, etc). Weekend rides are between 30-50 miles.
I guess everyone is different. Some weeks I don't ride much at all, some weeks I feel the urge and ride my little backside off. Because I'm strictly a "doing it just for fun" girl, if I want to ride, I do; and if I don't, I don't. :)

Welcome Lori! I feel the same as you - why didn't I start this eons ago? So fun! I don't pay a ton of attention to miles. I just make sure to get out and ride for an hour or so most days of the week and longer on the weekend. I think I'm going about 10-15 miles at a time/20+ on the weekend. I'm loving it too!

How many miles do you all average on a daily ride?

When I manage to haul my lazy butt out in the morning before work, it's generally out to the bay & back, around 9-10 pancake-flat miles.

If I'm feeling ambitious and I have the time, I throw in the loop around the park, about 15 miles with a bit of climbing.

On mornings like this one, it's a big fat zero. :p

On weekends, it's more. :)

That was helpful wasn't it? :o :D

Welcome, Lori! Congrats on discovering the joys of cycling!

Your 7 to 9 mile ride length is about what I did, on average, my first 6 to 9 months of biking. Then I edged up to doing 10 as a minimum, with most rides in the 13-20mi range. Now I do 13-20 mile rides a couple of times during the week, and a long ride of 30-50mi most weekends.

Whatever feels good, is fun, and keeps you out there on the bike is the 'right' mileage for you! Enjoy!:)

LOL I feel the same way...why did I wait so long to try this? I love riding and can't wait to get up in the morning to ride...I'm totally addicted. I had been looking for something to do for fitness and I am so glad I found this! Going to the gym is too social for me, running is not an option due to previous injuries, and walking is too boring. I love swiming but don't have access to a pool (its at DH parent's house) routinely. So biking is the perfect activity! Welcome and I hope you'll be as happy here as I have been...its a great place to learn!
I have been riding since May and average 10 miles a day/4-6 days a week.
Do what feels best to you but mostly keep doing it, don't give up or get discouraged because you aren't doing what everyone else does :)
A few times a week there is this guy I see on the bike trail...he is an older guy and rides an old school single speed cruiser type of bike that seems too small. He always has on gray gym shorts, a white tee shirt and rarely wears a helmet...and he FLIES! I'm slow but I average about 9-10 mph and he passes me at easily twice that speed! I always get inspired when I see him and it makes my day to see him get out and do what makes him happy.
Thats the whole point of this-just keep enjoying it and be happy!

My average is 2-3 miles because usually it's just my commute, offset by occasional longer rides. I find that usually I don't dare go out during rush hour but sometimes will take out my bike on the park that has bike paths in the evening. I try to get out on the weekends to do longer rides but don't always get the chance.

If I push myself too hard, then I become miserable on my ride so I just go as long as I am still enjoying it :)

That's the spirit loride! Just enjoy it. If you try tracking your mileage over next few months, you might surprise yourself.

Daily I do 42 kms. (or 26 miles). Weekends it's 30-60 miles each day.

I have not been on my bike in over 2 months because i have been traveling for work. So sad. And i am only home for 4 days this time. I am going to go for a ride today though. I might not be very stronge but I will be happier knowing I did. I normally ride a 15 mile loop. It has some really good hills too! So adding some hills is always a plus. And will make you stronger so you can ride further! Good luck and enjoy!
