View Full Version : the cycling moon

Yes... this is a topic that has been discussed here before. I thought I would *never* be posting this as a result of my TE education. Never wanting to be "that person" whose azz is showing through their shorts. BUT:o...
What if you had been through so many shorts on your search without luck... and these were 'the ones' ? Worst exception being... umm, the cycling moon is shining away.
Would you keep wearing them? Or give up comfort / performance in your shorts for looks?
Me personally... I'm thinking scr*w it... my bum and woman-hood's pretty happy... just let the moon shine.
It's still tough to justify though. Hmm... what to do...
Btw, the issue is with the shorts being brand new--vs worn out etc.--and not cheap--$99--fwiw.

Put a little cycling skirt on over them, and keep on riding! :D
TE has a bunch of great cycling skirts, but I think one by Sheila MOON would be especially appropriate! http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodSM_2570_1.html

Have a bright light wherever you have your full-length mirror, and just make sure the seam's lined up when you dress. It's very difficult to notice then, and if they fit as well as you say, then the seam won't move once they're on.
Life's too short to wear shorts that are more uncomfortable than they need to be. JMO.
(although I'm seriously starting to worry whether "I'm too old to worry about what I look like to other people," is the first step toward "I'm too old to care about other people's feelings," which I see out of so many people... But that's another topic.)

:)Thx... those are good ideas!
I figured my hind end would be showing before I ever wore them. They are made of the compressive waffle weave fabric stuff.
Got confirmation of the moon last night from my regular ride buddy. She noticed it in the bright sunlight close behind me.
Doing my first event this w/e and she wanted to give me the head's up "fyi". Did I want to wear the shorts with that many strange people riding that close to my back-side?:eek:
I'll go with the seam lining up best I can now w/the event near. And consider the skirt for future. They do make a lot of cute ones!
Oh... this was funny... my ride pal says, "well, at least your a woman and not a hairy azzed guy... sooo, uummm, that sorta helps.:p"

Well, I can't make that claim, but the problem does go both ways ;-)
I retired my first pair of shorts last year after many, many miles... Until one evening a riding buddy called it to my attention. Since then I've been a little more particular than just pulling them on and hitting the saddle.
One way to deal with it, "never look back." :D

I got notified of my moon on a group ride recently. Ride on! What else can you do right then and there?
However, when I got home, I marked a big X on the tag and relegate those shorts to my winter riding under tights or to spin class (they turn off the lights).

That's why I ride alone.
I did have a friend tell me I had moon shine :p once at a gym while rock climbing. Personally, I was annoyed. It wasn't like I could go home and change. So, I kept climbing. Too bad for them if it offended anyone.

I have an older pair that also was sewn with this black/brown wiry thread that is starting to fuzz and come through at the front - looks like human (ahem!) hair!
So I only wear those under cargo shorts for a commute or mountain biking.

Full moons provide light on the darkest of nights, so if "my" full moon is as bright- so be it. I might provide a beacon of light to lead the cyclist behind me. :p I don't care, honestly. If they are so thin I can see through them like transparent glass, then I'll change them, but until then...
I have a skirt or capris I can throw over thinning ones if I have to- but nobody has ever told me I'm "showing." Of course, like redrhodie, I ride mostly alone... ;)

I was just told recently that some of my shorts do show - they're not my regular ones and I just wear them when all my regular shorts are dirty... so I'll just continue to do that and pull on some thin nylon shorts over them if I have to wear them.

I want to inform you that looking in a mirror doesn't quite do it. Your derriere looks DIFFERENT while seated. There are little er, wrinkles and things that do not show up. If you MUST wear those shorts, put a pair of biking undershorts on underneath!

Wrinkles? In my rear? I'm having trouble visualizing this. :D

you don't want to.
Imagine, you are going down the road and the guy in front of you. NO, it can't be. you look away. You look back, what did i see? you look away, gross, it can't be. You look back, is that what I think it is?
This can go on for MILES. Are you sure you want someone behind you in that condition? And finally when you figure out, yes, you really are seeing his bare flesh jiggling beneath his transparent shorts, now you are still trying not to look, but you have to, because he's in front of you..
for the good of the nation, the planet, the universe, you MUST tell that person to buy new shorts.
Been there done that.

LOL Mimi. You're right--I don't want to visualize that. OK, back to work now.
