I never ever thought in a million years I would ever be in this area of this discussion group. I couldn't swim 25m without stopping in mid Feb (I started training 2 weeks early to get some extra help). I now feel like swimming is second nature (I know I need improvement but at least don't feel like I am drowning). I was 283lbs and very out of shape due to all I have been through with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (multiple chemo -26 months, steroids, double mastectomy). It has now been 5 months and I am down to 243lbs (woo hoo 40lbs gone!), I have done one complete triathlon, the bike portion of another and now have signed up for a third full tri. If I can do this anyone can do this. I just want to thank those of you that have been very supportive during this journey because I am not fast but I did make it... this support has had a profound impact.....thanks again tina

PS. I have started the couch to 5k program and we shall see how the feet do! I have also joined a gym (6 months ago I would have thought I had went totally mad..lol)

Good for you! I love hearing stories like this--it's what keeps me going when I wonder why the hell I'm attempting these things.

Tina, you totally ROCK! Thanks so much for sharing your inspirational story.

I've been spending some time reading other triathlon boards and the posts there really make me appreciate the supportive folks on TE. I love the TE oasis of camaraderie and support!

Good luck with your training. Keep us posted, please! :)

I love hearing everyone's stories and accomplishments, it gives me inspiration and motivation. Keep up the good work and congratulations. Have you started a blog yet? BTW, how did you get started swimming? Did you follow a particular program or just started doing laps? I should start swimming this fall/winter and not really a great swimmer.

Awesome!! Congratulations on how far you've come already (not to mention cancer? sheesh!!)... and so much more opportunity lies ahead. Give this woman some chocolate! Or a massage! Or maybe just lots of hugs. ;)

I got started working out with a group called Team survivor. it is for woman cancer survivors. I worked with a great swim coach to get started.

Now I am doing the 0-1650 workout schedule.

Hugs work for me... chocolate causes weight gain...LOL
