This is all rather vague in my mind, but a couple of years ago, the local news featured a story of a little girl (older than your story's probably around 8 or 9) and she decided that for her birthday party she wanted her guests to bring donations to the food bank or the SPCA.

I'm so happy when kids can think beyond their instant gratification of getting gifts and give back to those less fortunate.

You're right, we need more adults like them!
