How and where do you store your bikes? We have 5 bikes. I've been using those hooks things(and put them into the rafters/studs) and hanging them in the basement during the winter and craming them in the garage. Right now our mountain bikes are still in the basement, because there's no more room in the garage.

They sleep with me.
Well, nearly... They are at the foot of my bed (all 4 of them). I think I'm going to mount them to the wall when I move so they don't take up so much floor space, but they'll still be in my bedroom.

They have their own bedroom. Since we don't have kids (nor do we want them), the spare bedroom is for our babies; the bikes. :)

My road and mountain bike stay in the garage so I have quick access to them. DH's bikes stay out in the shed. LOL......He keeps telling me that I should put my bikes out there too and make more room in the garage but I ride just about everyday and I want them close so I can keep an eye on them.

Used to put my 2 babies on a floor/ceiling rack.
Donated my old TREK last year, so my SPecialized was leaned against wall in hall until recently.
Now its on the wind trainer in the living room where I sit an pedal a bit each day trying to get my butt re-accustomed to the saddle (its been a while).
Why not ride outside, you ask... I have a bad case of De Quervains in my left wrist. Can't shift, can't brake - well I can but it involves screaming and crying :( On the trainer I can sit up and not use my hands at all.

They are scattered all over the basement level of the house - mostly leaning against walls.
1 bike in the garage - my commuter.
2 bikes in the furnace room - DH's road bike and his flatbar road.
1 bike in the laundry room (which is technically all one room with the furnace room) - my road bike.
4 bikes in the utility/"garden" room - 2 mountain bikes, 1 cruiser, and my old road bike, which is currently on loan to a friend of mine for the summer.
Oh, and the unicycle is usually in the utility room too, but that's on loan to a neighbor's son. We reeeally expect to get that back....soon.

The 2 road bikes that we ride every day are permanently mounted in the back of our Town & Country van!! Yep - we took out all the back seats and DH built a platform with front tire skewers bolted in. We take off the front wheels, roll them on to the platform and front fork locks into the skewers. We hang our helmets on the shopping bag hooks in the back. Our shoes, heart rate monitors, rain gear, bike tools all are stowed under the platform in big, flat plastic tubs. I'll see if I can get a pic to show.
The rest of the bikes are in the garage, including the 1949 Schwinn that DH's granddad used to ride. Weighs like 50 pounds - LOL.
There hasn't been a car in my garage since 1999.

We store our bikes in 2 areas-- mine in common locked caged bike storage area with other residents' bikes. There are post and rings inside common caged are, to lock up bikes also which I do for all 3 of my bikes. Our building has several caged areas.
He keeps his in his storage locker off of the underground parking garage. He has 3 plus his BOB bike trailer. My storage locker is full of other stuff.
We have no rm. to store not even 1 bike, in our living premises within condo.

We have a large garden shed, that looks like the rest of the house. Instead of gardening tools, our bikes are in there. We each have 3 bikes, plus, my son's Serotta is in there, too. DH's bikes are all hung with hooks, as is my mountain bike. But I can't easily lift the hanging bikes on/off because I am too short, so my road bike and Jamis are in a little 2 bike holder stand.
DH also built a platform with the front tire skewers in the back of his Lexus. He mostly keeps his bike in there during the week, as when he commutes, he's taken to driving to a municipal lot and starting his ride from there, to avoid the climb home.
I haven't even put my bike rack on this year; I just stick my bike in the back of my car, with the seat folded down.

We used to keep our two mountain bikes in the entry way to our tiny apartment. You couldn't open the front door the whole way, nor get into the coat closet w/o moving the bikes. Now we have three bikes but are getting ready to move so two of the bikes are, with our landlord's permission, out in the hallway/stairway area leading to the roof. That leaves just one to hang out behind the front door :o
In my new place I'll have half a basement for my bikes and won't have to carry them down from the 3rd floor every time I want to go for a spin - I think that's one of the most exciting parts of the move!

Question: Do those of you who keep bikes in your car have any worries about them getting damaged from the heat?
We have the front fork-lock set-up in our car and I used to keep my old bike in there all the time, but I've been reluctant to leave my new bike in the car in the summer because I'm worried that the heat will mess it up. It's a mountain bike so I guess the tires would be alright, but I haven't wanted to take the chance. Any thoughts?

i keep my 2 bikes in our laundry room, leaning against my bike stand. I used to keep them in our storage closet in the building's basement (I live in a nyc apartment) but decided i would ride more if i kept them inside our apartment. it's working so far.

My three bikes are in the basement, two on a gravity rack and one hanging from a hook in a rafter. I have extra wheels hanging from hooks in a few studs.

My bike is frequently left on the bike rack on my car. Otherwise, it stays in the garage with DH's. However, DH had to build a shed for the lawnmower, motorcycle, kayak, etc--so the kid's can stay in the house :D

In the garage. Its just me for the most part so I have half the car for my bikes, half for the car. I am compulsively neat (my dad kept the garage neat as a pin, so I do too) so it bugs me to have them leaning, but I have not gotten wall mount racks up yet.
When my SO visits with his bike, it gets to come in the house. It wears red white and blue and carries a USPS team bag, so it gets special celebrity treatment. Seriously, I "borrowed" it for his birthday to take some pics (my avatar pic is one)...and I put it in the house after and went to ride my MTB. I started thinking about halfway through my ride about whether or not I shut the garage door (and access to the house) when I left....I had to stop and call the officer on duty for the sector where my house is and have him run by and check for me! I had...

We have a really big garage. All 5 bikes (one for each of us), a freezer, gardening stuff, the *&#^* we don't know what to do with, and 2 cars easily fit there. We used to have bunny cages out there as well, but that's another story.

We have a really big garage too. We have a bit of a wheel fetish so it's a good thing!:p
We have a racecar on a trailer, two cars, ten bikes, DD's first tricycle, a folding scooter and three sets of roller blades in our garage! I think we need to have a wheel intervention!
We have a nifty rack that is modular (so grew as the number of bikes grew) and holds 6 bikes nose-in or tail-in. This holds DD's MTB, DH's comfy roadie, hard tail MTB and dually MTB, my hard tail MTB and my dually MTB.
My roadie hangs upside down from the ceiling above this rack on two hooks into a ceiling joist. The tandem hangs from the ceiling in one corner on one of those really nifty bike lift things with pulleys that you can raise and lower.
My old antique roadie lives on the magtrainer in front of the tandem.
Humblest apologies - the tenth bike (DH's head down and belt it out roadie) is currently at DH's work, hanging from the ceiling of his office on another bike lift, sadly waiting to be ridden again since he's been too busy at work lately to go for a spin at lunchtime!:(

We have kept our road bikes in the car all the time for 2 years now. The heat doesn't bother them... now, leave your Chamois Butter or your sunblock in the car in the heat and it turns to soup :).

my husband had a garage built about 10 years ago and a car has been in it for less than a month of days. it is great for bikes!

In the living room on a steel rack. Mine goes on the top, BF's on the bottom. I see them as soon as I walk in the door to the apartment. :D

We are quickly multiplying our stable so it seems like bikes are everywhere in our house.
The roadies live in the guest bedroom. We don't have kids to use it and we don't have guests often.
DH's Commuter lives in the garage, as do our combined 4 mountain bikes. We had a shed built to house the camping supplies and lawn equipment so half the garage would be freed for bikes. I park my car inside but there is plenty of room for more bikes. :p

Ours currently live in the common area of our dorm room. I don't know where I'm putting mine next semester. DBF's is going in his room, but mine will be smaller than his, and I don't know where it'll be staying. Not outside and not in the bike room for the building, that's for sure.

4 bikes in around 900 sq.ft. means 1 in the living room, 1 in the bedroom, and 2 in the hallway. There are bikes everywhere.
To me, there's nothing more beautiful than a bike, so I don't mind.

The bikes share the garage with the motorbikes. Our other garage is a workshop, and the cars live outside.
At some point I will probably get some hooks etc. to hang them up and organize them a bit better.

I live in a 2 bedroom condo. Currently, my 2 daughters and I have 5 bikes. We have access to bike storage out back - behind our building. I store my daughters' bikes and my old Trek (which I plan on selling soon) in the storage unit but I won't store my Madones there because space is a major issue. There are way too many bikes there - crammed into a small space. For those of you who keep your bikes on a rack or stand in your home, would you please recommend the brand of rack or stand that you use? Thanks!

I store mine in the shed; the kid's outgrown bike is in the basement. I should move that to the shed, or sell it!

I bought a small storage shed for my balcony that is big enough to fit my mountain bike with the tires removed. It should work to protect the bike from moisture.
Should I be worried about temperature extremes? For those who keep bikes in a shed or other place that's not climate controlled, are there issues caused by cold or hot temps, like damage to cables or anything like that?
Thanks

I rearranged my room this year so that there is enough space for my bike. She has her own wall.

Ours are in the garage - all over it. Between the junk, the tools and all the biking stuff, we no longer park our car in there. The previous owner had 4 hooks in the ceiling for bikes, so we use those. One bike is usually on the work stand and the rest are propped up around the rest of the garage. I think we have 8 or 9 right now (most belong to my H), but that is constantly changing as he's got a sickness when it comes to bike. ;)
I may suggest that we move the good weather road bikes into the basement once the winter rain arrives. It would be more secure down there, I think.
