I saw this guy on my ride today and we both stopped and chatted for a while. How do you pick up a guy when you're two ships passing in the night or in this case two bikes passing on the trail?

Maybe I should get some cards made.

You ask him if he wants a copy of the picture in case it turns out so well that women cyclists world wide will want poster sized blow ups of the picture for their bedroom (It did! :p You've got good taste, Zen. Ooops, hope he's not lurking. Quick note to biker dude if he is: Dude, PM Zen. I'm married and bat for the other team).

Anyway so you ask him if he wants a copy and promise to e-mail him a copy. He give you his e-mail, you send the picture, you two kids take it from there.

Judging from body language and facial expression I think he likes you :D

Zen

You know, I thought the same thing about that body language :D

You're so clever, that's a good idea. I guess there just wasn't enough blood flow to my brain to think that well

I know-- pretty blatant and fishing around. But he would understand..

I noticed the lack of helmet too but sometimes you just have to overlook small flaws;) Beleive me, I noticed everything.

Don't kick yourself :( Ride on, if it is meant to be it's meant to be.

If you don't see him again it's a fun memory of "the one that got away" and practice for when you will meet the right one. :)

Back in the day when I was single and looking I was just a leetle bit skeptical of the one with that perfect line for any occasion, knowing just what to say or do to get a gals number. Just a leetle bit too practiced for my book.

Don't worry about not having got his e-mail or number, the fact that you didn't is charming. Stay that way. :D

Which way was he headed? Maybe have someone stalk the other end of the towpath to keep an eye out for him?

I like the "hey, give me your email so I can send you a copy" line. That's a good reason to always keep a camera with you!

But...he only has one fender, and there is no mud slung up from the other tire....and none of his tires have a speck of mud on them.

He seems 'bikey', which is good. But I have to admit there is something in his eyes that activates my warning antennae.

If the towpath is muddy the fenders and the rider and socks would be muddy. His socks are sparkling white.

I dunno, Zen. Honesty is hot, and something does not add up, or he changed socks for you?

I looked at the towpath, it didn't look muddy to me. It was likely the section he did the night before, then you can jump over to pavement for 20 miles. I'm very observant and no dummy. Well, for the most part anyway.

I have to admit there is something in his eyes that activates my warning antennae.

If you look at his gear, it isn't new. It's been used, but is in good shape.
So, I think that he's a neat and clean individual on a bike tour, and that's a non-sequitur, but nothing wrong with it.

He's obviously got enough stuff on that bike that he can afford to change clothes and wear some clean ones.

You shoulda offered to get him an ice cream cone at the half way point. Who doesn't want ice cream when biking on a hot day while carrying everything but the kitchen sink on their trailer?

I like how their helmets are so cavalier-ly strapped to the bike, as if to say, "hey, I got my helmet, see? I'm not just some DUI-recovering street bum, I'm a serious biking dude, I'm just not that worried about my brain so much."

You could always do the equivalent of popping your hood - stoop by the side of your bike and pretend to examine your chain. Guys dig girls who fix their own stuff. You can make it look like you're adjusting your derailleur (even though WE know you did that BEFORE you set out.) :D

p.s. I have never "read" you be so smitten before. He must have talked a good talk!

Erm.

Zen isn't taking pictures of these men naked on a couch with the bike behind them. She isn't taking pictures of them in a thong biking along.

She's taking pics of them on a trail biking, she may have preferred to have them naked on her couch, but we still gotta work on her pick up lines.

It's hard to call this a double standard - most of us would have no problem with a bike calendar of women actually biking.

I will admit I only read the first page of that thread that you linked to, so maybe on the next 3 pages there's something that could be called a double standard.

Irulan

Who says you can't have it both ways? Life is too short to be confined by such rules!

What, it's ok to objectify men, but men can't objectify women? Look, I think the thread I posted a link to is ridiculous; I think women waste way too much time getting upset about this stuff, I just want to point out that there seems to be a double standard here.

Zen isn't taking pictures of these men naked on a couch with the bike behind them. She isn't taking pictures of them in a thong biking along.

But the implication (desire, hotness, companionship)is there even if it's subtle and unspoken.... it's all about degrees of appreciation, right?

Excellent! And you helpfully derailed and shut down a playful thread by attempting to point out the hypocrisy of its members.

I'd debate the difference, it would just further derail the thread. So instead, I'll just roll my eyes.

What, it's ok to objectify men, but men can't objectify women?

Objectification, by definition, is turning a person into an object--it impersonalizes the person, and I think it's odious whether done by women or men.

But this thread is the exact opposite of objectification--Zen met the guy, enjoyed talking with him, and would have liked to get to know him better. There isn't anything wrong with appreciating looks as part of the totality of a person. I don't objectify my husband by looking at the picture on my desk and thinking "oooh, nice."

And I guess it's not really the opposite of objectification--that would be personification (which I do with my bike all the time!).

Whew! I can leave my reflectors on. Good. That way I won't get a traffic citation. I think there's even a fine here for riding in traffic without them.

But (showing my absolute bike dorkiness) what's a pieplate? I have three, but they're all in the kitchen cupboard for when I bake multiple pies.

She's referring to the big plastic chain protector on the back wheel. It is sometimes referred to as a pie plate. Sometimes, it's referred to as a "dork disc." Often times, folks just remove it as unnecessary.

I have a friend who live's in Pueblo COlorado. He leaves very close to a trail all the cross country people take. He rides himself and runs into people on this trail a lot. And he is always asking them if they need to do laundry, have a shower, hot meal and a warm bed to sleep in. We have met some interesting people because he does this. All very nice non murderer type's. I should have him keep an eye out for your honey! So romantic!
Oh and not his bed but the guest house bed of coarse. He is married. Met a couple from thailand that were biking around the world. Some very interesting stories from them let me tell you! they had all their stuff taken from them and tied them to a tree in Peru. Luckly the survived and the sponser's sent them all new stuff. Zen you absolutely MUST follow the picture taking with the following:

Pull out your phone and ask for the guys email address, so you can ssend him the picture for his office, house, mom...

He will say "Oh thanks!" and give the info. Go home upload the pic to your pc and shoot him a nice email with the pic.

He will then write back to thank you. You will then write him asking all about his trip.... and on, and on and on.

THis works everytime.... I even did it and I don't date guys! Trek420 and I went to a race.... missed the race but ran into these 3 weekend warriors having a snack after a long ride. We got some directions for a good place to view the race (if we'd gotten there in time).

They were all cute and sitting on a guardrail with their bikes leaning all over the place. I asked if I could shoot them. Before I'd even gotten my lenscap back on, one of the guys was asking MY email, which he sent a simple "hi" to... so I sent him the pic, which he distributed to his buddies and i got thank you's from all of them.
