There's a hill with a significant incline in one of my favorite places to ride. I've only been riding for a few weeks and have had to walk a portion of it every time. Until this morning. :D I may not have "managed" the hill in an ideal fashion - I felt woozy at the top and stopped for a moment to pour some water on my head (hot & humid this a.m.), but it was a real sense of accomplishment. Just had to share with people who can appreciate it!

Congrats!!! I have a nemesis hill that I hope to conquer one day. Who cares how you managed to get up it. You did!

Mine would have to say "Hills devour me" ;)

Thank you for posting this today. You might have noticed I crashed yesterday. I wasn't thrilled to ride today, but my husband (who feels sufficiently bad) was worried I wouldn't ride again after my a$$ over elbows experience. So, he convinced me to go for a long ride today. We went "the way of the hills" as I refer to them. 32 miles. I only really have one good hand because my left thumb isn't healed, so hills were a concern. But, as I was 3/4 up a hard one and about to give up, I though of you being able to get up the hill. I made it with one hand. Heavy breathing and all! I still had to walk the monster, but your post got me up one I might not have made to the top otherwise.

So, thank you.

doesn't it feel great! I have a couple of nasty hills on my ride that I've always hated. Back in the spring I was barely making it up the hills and swearing and *****ing them out. Just the other day I realized that I am actually finding myself going faster up the hills and not having to shift down to my lowest granny gear to get up them. I couldn't believe it when I looked down at my spedometer and instead of only going about 5 mph up the hill I was going 8-9 mph!!! Just keep working at it and all of a sudden you will realize that hmmmmmmm, wait a sec, that just got easier!!!!

Thanks so much for the encouragement, everyone! So much more gratifying than the "oh, yay for you getting up a hill" looks I got after telling other non-cycling folks yesterday after my ride.

Nightowl - sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you recover quickly. I'm a big believer in getting back on the horse that threw you asap, too, so I'm glad I was able to provide a little virtual support on your slog up a hill. I've gotten so much inspiration from this community, I'm happy I could help someone else out.
