View Full Version : My Lynskey
I did it: I took the plunge and got a new bike :D Originally, Lynskey had a demo frame in my size but then they put the R230 on sale so I ended up receiving a new frame :) I also found a great deal on the groupset from LickBike so I decided to spend a little extra for an upgrade :)
It rides like a dream! The geometry is more comfortable than my first road bike and I love riding it! I still don't like hills but I think that's a user defect ;)
I can't help but cringe whenever I have to go over rough roads :(
Specs:
Frame: Lynskey R230, XS
Groupset: Campy Chorus 11 speed
Cassette: 12-27
Crank: 170mm, compact 34/50
Handlebars: FSA Wing Pro Compact, 40cm
Stem: FSA OS-150, 90mm
I also transferred the saddle (Jett) and pedals (Ultegra SPD-SL) from my old bike :)
I also have Linda's computer on there (thank you!!! :D)

I can't speak for the components, but I can vouch for the fact that the R230 frame can stand up to some pretty serious abuse. ;)
Enjoy your ride.

Awesome! Love the frame; love the build.
I'd like to hear how you like your handlebars.

Is the 230 part of the houseblend as they call it? I'm hoping in about a year to get a Lynskey too.. the bike is gorgeous. Is the finish the natural titanium?

Thank you! Um...the handlebars are good...is there anything specific you want to know? ;) I hang on to them and they help me steer...they don't really seem that different than the handlebars on my old road bike (Bontrager VR OS).

Yes, the R230 is a houseblend :) It's natural brushed (lowest price tier is satin finish) because it was included in the reduced price :)
Currently, I'm troubleshooting some shifting problems... :p :(

super duper awesome! Love the campy components... the bike is SO super sweet... maybe I need another bike ??? ;)
I'm having shifting issues with the compact crank that I never noticed with my triple. Namely, when I am in the small ring in front (34), I can only shift about half way up my cassette before the chain touches the rear derailleur. Then I have to shift into my big ring (50) to get access to any of the higher chainrings. Is this normal?
I'm considering bringing it into my LBS but it seems like it would be unnecessary expense since I've only had for ten days... :p

Ana,
Congratulations on a very nice bike! I'm sure you'll enjoy many miles together. :)
As far as your shifting issues go, does the chain touch your front or rear derailleur? If it's the front derailleur, it sounds like you need to "trim" your front derailleur. One of the benefits of Campy is that you can trim your front derailleur. Unfortunately, I'm a Shimano user, so I don't know exactly how to do it on the Campy set up. I'm sure some of the other Campy users can chime in.
Since you just bought the bike, you can probably bring it into your LBS for a minor adjustment without any extra expense.
Hope you get it all figured out and are out enjoying some great rides soon!

I'm looking at basically the same bike. Do you mind telling me your height/inseam? I think would be between an XS and a S. I think the TT length on the S would be a smidge too long for me.

You need to adjust the front derailleur - if you're at the smaller ring in front and it rattles when you're on the smaller rings on the cassette, you move the gear shifter a click or two towards shifting to the larger ring in front. You can adjust the front derailleur two positions towards shifting in both directions, just do as if you were to shift, but don't go all the way.

I'm 5'3.5" with an inseam of 29". I think I have short arms for my height but I'm not sure (about 22"). Basically, I went off of my current bike, which had a top tube of 510mm with a 70mm stem but I suspect I need a little longer stem. I calculated out the reach (top tube + stem + handlebar reach) and compared it to the new build. They are within 10-20mm I think :)
Notably, since the seat tube angle is a tiny bit steeper than my old bike, I had to place my seat farther back to achieve KOPS, making my reach a little longer. Somehow it works out beautifully so far (I haven't gone on any rides longer than 15 miles though...so we'll see). I am prepared to swap out the 90mm stem for an 80mm if need be :)
Good luck and I'll look forward to seeing your new ride! :D
Also, the sales rep with which I was in contact was did not give any detailed feedback about how he thought the bike geometry would fit me--only that he thought it would work well. He didn't even ask about the dimensions of the bike I was currently riding. However, I believe he had motivation to sell me the bike too so I am not sure how forthright his opinion was. Ultimately, I was extremely diligent about adjusting the specs to exactly what I wanted and ended up somewhat lucky that the bike fits well :)

Yeah, I figured the front derailleur chatter out :)
It kind of looks like this when I am in the small ring in front and start shifting to higher gears in back (although I have not been brave enough to keep shifting up in back on my 34 front ring after the chain touches the rear derailleur):

Love it.
And having ridden Shimano Ultegra and Campy, I am ALL ABOUT Campy.

Thanks! Just contemplating it (seriously) right now. I'm getting ready to lay out some $$ for indoor pool access (planning for post Labor Day), so.... I might drop hints about the Lynskey for an anniversary gift. Maybe I'll tell Brian that you need to buy something titanium for the 21st anniversary? :p

LOL--so which size do you think would fit you best?
I hope your hinting goes well. Most of my experiences with "hinting" to the Y chromosome yields unpredictable results....you might end up with a titanium cooking set or a titanium robot ;)
Thank you for all your kind words :D
I love riding this bike! I've taken it out 3 times this week already :D It has renewed my love of cycling :)

Probably the XS. My bike size ranges from 47-51 cm. It's really all about the top tube for me. I would go for campy, too. My Luna Orbit has campy chorus and I love it. Even though my Bianchi has a "lesser" campy gruppo, I like it better than my bikes outfitted with Shimano components (my beater bike has Dura Ace, which I've never liked). The bikes in my stable that are "keepers" will eventually be converted to campy.

Congrats!! DH just ordered his today. He's a small. Gonna swap his Ultegra in his current bike to this one once he gets it.
I'm tempted to get one too... his and hers, though I can't justify spending more $$ considering I just got my Ruby last year. But it does look so good.
LBS say if I were to get it, I should get SRAM Rival for grouppo. Campy doesn't make stuff for small hands. :(

My campy levers work just great for my small hands (small size gloves, longest finger is 3")! The new ergo levers are awesome--I would highly recommend them to others with small hands! More comfortable than my Shimano 105 levers!

Really!? Could you tell me which Campy you got so I can take a look at it and pass it onto my LBS?
Thanks!

I have Chorus on my bike but Campy has great trickle-down technology regarding the less expensive groupsets too so don't hesitate to look at Athena, Veloce or Centaur.
I would recommend seeing/touching the Campy levers in person if you can, even if it's not at the LBS that is building up your bike (in case they don't customarily stock it) to see how it fits your hand.
Best of luck :)
