Hi all, I'm from Ireland and will be visiting San Fran in late September / early October this year.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a company that rents road bikes and does tours in the area. Not the city but maybe down the coast, I've heard Carmel is lovely?

I'd be looking for a 3-5 day trip with about 50miles or so ave per day. Or if there aren't many tours... maybe a club spin in the area that it would be ok to hook up with.

Any hints / tips about places to cycle around this area would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Laura

I think those of us who live here don't know a lot about tour companies. Sorry.

Maybe Backroads?

This company looks pretty good - they focus on CA: http://www.udctours.com/

Start here. :) This is the "read me first" about bike tourist'y stuff in the Bay Area. Feel free to ask away from there.

Oh, remember: we ride on the right hand side of the road/path ;) :p :D

Have fun!! I've ridden so many places (lived all over) and I have to admit that the Bay Area is my absolute favorite. It's hard to find a place that's not pretty around here. A ride from San Francisco to Monterrey or Carmel would be heavenly.

Went to a great bike clinic this weekend and the founder of http://www.bikeconcierge.com/ was there presenting on the bike maintenance session.

Seemed like a nice guy and when I was picking up his card, I noticed the bike concierge part of his business. Since he'd presented he mechanical portion, I just figured he had his own bike shop or bike repair shop.

I've heard good things about Backroads and UDC.
