Today I got to take my bike Cavalletta on our new light rail. It was a gorgeous day, even the weeds are beautiful here in the neighborhood. I spotted chicory, cat's ear and queen's anne lace.

Since the rides are free this weekend, I had to do a bit of waiting to get on the northbound train, but I met another cyclist who was not going to ride until he saw I was going to do it; so we stood in line and talked about bikes (his fixie, my Davidson) and commuting. Finally it was our turn. Just like the subway in NYC, there was a big rush as people got off and then on. As I tried to get on, a lady with a can turned around and hit my bike on its front wheel. I don't know what she thought I was going to do, so I let her get on and gave her lots of space. There's a little booth in the corner of each car that holds a bike. (I am standing in it with my bike) Everyone in the car was talkative and friendly, (I don't know where the old lady with the cane went) and we chit chatted as we went on our way. In less than 10 minutes, we were at my exit stop. They bored a hole through Beacon Hill - the train went top speed through this tunnel - and then we were in the station. From the station we had to take an Elevator because we were 16 stories down in the bowels of the earth.
I got off the train and went to the library (really, I took the long way so I could try the light rail) and then rode home, just happy as I could be to have a bike and to be able to ride it on a day as lovely as this.

Jersey design looks really well in that lighting, mimi. You're so colour coordinated with your bike. Seattle had a beautiful day also. No doubt, that rail line was crowded with people for free rides?

So where does this light rail go?

On Aug. 25/09, Vancouver BC, will have a new light rail section open up (Canada Line) from Vancouver Airport, via a 2nd new suburban Chinatown in Richmond (not the historic downtown Chinatown that you saw last year which is close to different light rail station) and will take one straight to downtown.

Will be also a bike path deck attached to the rail line deck also.

the light rail doesn't go all the way to the airport yet  They are not sure when that part will get done.
(but the latest date I heard was by Dec of this year)

Oh, that sucks. I thought it seemed early, they said 2010 for completion. I guess they still mean to use up all their time.

Mimi, is that a generator hub and light on your bike? Could you give me details on what you've got? Thanks.
