Bike Lock Suggestions

I accidentally reset my combination lock (my fault but still irritating) and had to cut it on my own.

I am using a lock with a key (Masterlock) right now but it only has one key since the other one broke inside of it.... I would like to hear about your experiences with what works best :) I am not locking up anything of great value currently but was unpleasantly surprised at how easily I was able to cut my own lock (yes, I was extremely frustrated but still...). Plus I saved the $45 the campus bike shop wanted to charge me :p

Kryptonite U-lock

Pick one really, but if you want it to actually take more than 5 minutes or power tools to break you'll have to get the NY Fuggitaboutit which is overkill for most everyone unless you, well, live in NY.

I use the older version of this (still post pen-cap issue):

And augment with a basic cable when I don't want to pull my front wheel off.

I went through this recently when I decided that my skinny cable combination lock wasn't secure enough. The bike in question isn't particularly valuable. But it is configured great for my needs - and they don't make them like this anymore.

I now have three Kryptonite locks:

An Evolution Mini (the short shank one) that I use like this:

This is probably a great locking strategy for a less valuable bike, not so good for a carbon frame wonder that a thief wants to part out. A side affect of the Sheldon Brown method is that my bike will never tip over while locked.

A Std Mini (which is longer than the Evo) which I use to lock the front wheel to the frame. I chose to carry a 2nd U-lock for the speed of locking. Weaving a cable through everything just takes too long! I do however notice the extra weight.

And a Fahgettaboudit which I haven't used yet. It's for the rare occasion I might have to lock up in a less secure area for an extended time.
