Dan & I were camping at Green Lakes State Park near Syracuse,NY this week. I was so proud of Dan because he was riding 25 miles a day, including up to Chittenango Falls which includes a steep hill (OK, so he pushed his bike up, but he got there). Things were looking rosy for us maybe doing a rail trail tour in retirement. Then I took a stupid fall in the park entrance on our way home. I didn't even skin my knee so I didn't think a thing about it, got back on my bike, climbed the hill back to out campsite, passing Dan. When I got to the top I turned and rode back down so that we could get to the campsite at about the same time. No problem. Walking around the campsite I noticed that my knee seemed to not flex right so I took Ibuprofen and iced it a while.
The next morning I woke up with a lot of swelling, so much so that I had trouble getting out of our sleeping bag. This was the day we had planned to hike around the beautiful turquoise green lakes. That was out of the question. After breakfast and talking about it and finally calling my MD, we broke camp and headed home. ER doc wasn't sure about the x-ray, so I'm waiting for radiologist's review, but there isn't enough pain for any bones to be broken. I'm in a knee immobilizer for a week minimum, and am very worried about whether I will be able to ride the PMC Aug. 6. Now waiting for clearance from ortho doc.

Ouch! I'm sending wishes for a fast recovery your way (don't you wish that all of those good wishes really helped?). How was your trip other than the unfortunate ending?

Hopefully 4 weeks of healing will be enough and you'll still be able to manage the PMC.

News...

Hang in there, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. This must be the week of crashes. Calli went down this week, my husband was just riding along his merry way on Sunday when a roller blading female crashed into him...he is fine and so was she...Jeez, enough already...

I'm hoping that despite your accident, that you had a nice vacation.
I went to college at SU and Green Lakes and Chi-falls were always fun places to go - when it wasn't snowing.. :p .

Hope you are healing quickly and can gt back on the bike!

Sorry about that knee thing, Jean. Let us know how it's doing. It seems like everyone is being plagued by weird things... after a month of x rays, CT scans, etc. my doctor agreed that the weird pain in my back is muscular, probably from when i rode to work with a backpack about 8 weeks ago. I had pain and numbness then, but about 2 weeks after that, this pain started. Her prescription was muscle relaxants at bedtime and go get a massage! I am happily obliging her this afternoon.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. My knee is a lot less swollen, but I still can't get more than a 50% flexion, and it still hurts to lift my leg. Hopefully a couple more days with the knee immobilizer and I'll be able to do some light riding. At this point I'm afraid of going to the orthopod, who will want an MRI. I know that I have osteoarthritis in both knees, and this is the knee that took the worst of the hit back in my running days; when a car ran a red light and into me. Why is it that when a car stops on top of you, literally, the driver can't take your word for it but has to get out & look for themselves? At least this time there is no one to blame for this accident but myself, but I am sorry I ruined Dan's vacation too.

I hope your massage did wonders Robyn.
