19.4% body fat!

Down from 26% in March.

To all you gals who want to lose weight, I just want to say you can do it. It's not easy. You will have setbacks, but you can do it. Another thread asked about bike mantras. I don't have a bike mantra. I have a life mantra:

Determination is remembering what you really want.

26% is about what I'm at now, down from 34% in November (well, so says my scale, I suspect it's lower). I was kinda thinking I would never get lower. Being overweight runs in my family, and after 2 kids..

Good for you. Definitely inspiring!

Wow! Congrats! Although I am not nearly as dedicated as you are, you give me hope. I think we are built on similar lines based on your pics.

The biggest stumbling block I have is something I can't control - post-menopausal middle age. I may have expectations that simply aren't going to come to fruition based on my stage in life and body type. Menopot - arrrgh :(

I'll just keep on trying until I find the combination of food and exercise that works for me.

Here's a picture of my family from 2002. We're lined up in birth order. I'm on the far right - probably weighed about 156 in that photo, maybe 158. As you can see genetics does not incline me to be little.

My oldest sis on the left has lost about 100 pounds since this photo - courtesy of tongue cancer.

My real motivation has been wanting to do better in triathlon. Now that I can't race Athena, I have to race in my age group. Those early 40s women are FAST and tiny. I don't ever expect to win, but I'm a competitive person and I want to be in the top half. Even that is a stretch for me.

That's where my mantra comes in. I just keep thinking about what it is I REALLY want.

I look very similiar right now to what you looked like back then (very similiar body type, too). Of course, I've got about 15 lbs on your before weight! :p

You really are inspiring, V. You and Susan both. And the part I like the best about both of you? You are both close to my age. I find that so motivating!

(seriously, when I was fit my LBM was 113lbs - my bf was 18% at 138 lbs - I'm 5'4"...Your calorie consumption is so close to what was working for me, too. I really think we have VERY similiar body types!)

Congratulations. That's so inspiring. I come from a family of short round women who don't live very long. At 168 in my 50s, I won't lie, I'm a little afraid I'll be following in their footsteps. So I got back on my bike a two weeks ago, and since then have lost three pounds and as many inches around the waist.

If I do half as well as you've done I'll be thrilled!

Keep going,
Kymber
