I am driving from Maine to Idaho via Wisconsin in August and will have a bike with me; I am bringing my cross bike so that I can do both a bit of road and trail (smooth, hard) riding. Nothing too rough as I am still getting over rotator cuff surgery and have not been able to ride since May. I understand that Wisconsin has a lot of nice rail trails. Scenic would be especially nice. Which ones might some of you suggest? I will be alone and want it to be safe as well.
Would love to have company for a ride.

You might want to check out the Elroy - Sparta trail, it's a nice trail with some really neat tunnels. Lots of little towns to stop in (the trail passes within a block of my folks house).

It's connected to the Great River and La Crosse River Trail to the west and the 400 trail to the south, so there's about 100 miles of rail trail within minutes of I-90.

If you've got time - I also recomend the Root River Trail in MN, it's beautiful.

thanks much. All ideas happily received. It has been raining for 7 weeks here in Maine so I am hoping by the time I am on my way, I will have decent weather.

Here's another link for other Wisconsin Rails to Trails.

Be sure to post when you get in this area and maybe one of us WI TEers can meet up with you for a ride.
