Hey grrl! Of the topic of shorts, but staying in cycling gear :D

I want to have zippers put across the center pocket of most of my jerseys (store bought). Do you see any problem with that? I have a friend that's a really good seamstress. She said she'd do it... just needs a little guidance as cycling jerseys aren't her normal forte. She did do a geat job removing the sleeves on one of my old ones. Looks like it came that way...

you could just alter store bought and reset the elastic if you want to go shorter.

lol! ya know.. i never thought of that! i just end up rolling them up! i may have to do that to pair and see how they turn out! of course i'd still leave them a bit longer and roll them up say one roll on the bike (i roll them too high for stopping or wearing at rest/sag stops.. i always unroll them again at the stops!)

LOL! :D :D I do the same thing. I roll them up while riding and back down while stopped.

Irulan, if you shorten shorts with the gripper elastic, do you put in your own elastic then? Or is there some way to purchase and use gripper elastic? One other question- do you find the chamois you sew yourself to be as comfortable as that in shorts purchased?

well, if **I** were to shorten shorts, being the cheapskate that I am I would reuse the elastic. If I was taking enough off that I could just cut the elastic off, then I'd put on new. Or, if the elastic is toast from picking it off there, I'd replace it.

any number of the mail order sources listed on the site sell gripper elasitc, it is about $1 a yard.


as for comfort, I haven't purchased commercial shorts in 20 years, so I have nothing to compare to. A friend of mine just made some of these and says they are super comfortable for her. Everyone is different.

Wow, what an accomplished sewer you are! You make it look so easy.

I think it'd be cool to know how to sew - kindof like playing the piano...<sigh>.if I had only paid more attention in Home Ec and practiced my piano lessons.... :o

Have you ever come across a pattern for something along these lines?

I live in Hot and Humid Houston and I prefer the T back sleeveless fitted jerseys. It would be so cool to have some custom ones.

There are a some swime wear and exercise wear patterns that could be modified, check the Kwik Sew pattern line.

Never seen the bike gear stuff though - gonna have to go moan at the local shop

KS won't have exaclty what you want, you will need to tweak a pattern. Either KS or Stretch and Sew has a patttern for a racer back unitard ( I think) that should work.
