We are getting ready to leave for our France Tour trip and I need to keep my packing to a minimum. I am a notorious overpacker and a shoe and clotheshorse and I'm having a hard time deciding.

Any suggestions for traveling clothes to take?

I like lightweight supplex capris. They pack small and are pretty comfortable no matter what the weather. Shoes are hard - our trips usually involve hiking, biking, snorkeling and eating at nice restaurants. That's 4 pairs of shoes minimum.

I don't know if this will help at all, but I have a journal / article that essentially is my packing list for biking tours - including both on the bike and off the bike clothing. I used it as a reminder for myself for a non-biking trip last fall, and I was able to get away with only a small carry-on for a week-long trip. Of course it does require that I wash clothes every night!

On the shoe front, if I'm on a biking trip I usually take my biking shoes and Chaco (http://www.chacousa.com) Z/1 sandals. These sandals are pretty stable and I have happily used them for hiking - depending on the terrain, of course. For a hiking trip I may take hiking shoes (or boots) plus again the Chaca sandals.

My "What's in that trailer? Or in those panniers?" article can be read at denisepacks.crazyguyonabike.com (http://denisepacks.crazyguyonabike.com). (Oh, and if that site isn't available, please try again later. I know that Neil - the webmaster for and owner of crazyguyonabike - is working to resolve a sporadic problem with the site.)

Thanks! Thanks so much for the ideas. I am really struggling with my packing light. Just my bike stuff takes up an medium sized duffle.

Since crazyguyonabike.com is unexpectedly still unavailable, I've created a copy of my article in a blog - it can be accessed at http://denisepacksforbiketours.blogspot.com/.

...and yes, I realize I posted this in 2 discussions - just didn't want someone who was looking for my article to not be able to find the replacement...

I'll check out your site Denise!
Thanks. :)
Thanks to some of the suggestions on this board, I bought the Tomboy dresses at Title 9. What a great store.
