tonight DH & I went on a date. to the grand opening of "VEER" in the seattle area.
It was a movie about bicycle culture, particularly in Portland, OR.

it was pretty crazy. Made the Seattle biking community seem very tame.
Google zoobombers. They ride 16" wheel kids bikes down hill at night and race.
or Bicycle jousting on double tall bikes.
or chariot bike "fights"

the most positive thing in the movie is that they criminalized careless or reckless driving that results in death or serious injury to pedestrians, cyclists or other vulnerable parties in the state of Oregon. One man (forgive me, I have to find his name) managed to get 5 bills passed; through the Oregon Legal system.
We have to figure out how to get him to Washington!

there were bicycle cops in it too. They showed some of how they are trained.

The zoobombers are CRAZY people! :D

I haven't seen this movie but I did have an observation on my ride this morning that is somewhat related. I'm finding that when I'm biking in town (my commute doesn't take me into Portland - but I am in an urban area west of Portland), car drivers are curteous and easy to work with... When I'm in the country (half my commute), not so much. People are AWFUL to bikes out there! And the thing is, they are the same people most of the time! I think it's just that car drivers are USED to seeing bikes in town but during commute times, they don't like having them 'in their way' once they get out onto the country roads.

In contrast, Greensboro, NC was the opposite. Except near the college campuses, people were not used to seeing bikes in the city during rush hour. They didn't know how to handle it and often did very dangerous things. On the quiet country roads, they were more used to seeing cyclists and seemed to have a better understanding of how not to endanger us.

Odd contrast, huh?

I am going to check out that movie, though.

I'll have to visit mine in Ontario, using my time machine. :)

I hope it is out there sometime soon for those of us to rent or download or something. Sounds very interesting.
